I played the brown ric last night with the GK/acoustic b810/demon and it cut like a hot meat cleaver through warm butter. Also a bummer the guy who pretty much was the band played his last show last night. So now we get to audition guitar players to fill some really big shoes

Effects newb bought multi pedal to try different things, now he has the fuzz itch. Took him to bass fuzz (dot) com and now he wants a fender sublime. Wasn't someone here getting rid of one? Gift wrapped it for you.

Funny how White seems to be the new tolex color of choice these days. I think it was Musicians Friend that had the Fender T100 and 410 in white, bad ass looking IMHO. The ox blood combo is different but I just don't feel it as much, if I had the choice between that or silver face? I'd go silver face.

I don't want all white on a big cab. That'll get ugly fast. Basically I want to finish building my 2000S cab copy (which might actually go faster now that I know what a router template is), and have the sides be dark grey while the back and the front are white.

There's white tolex and I think grey tolex available, but not in the texture that my old Sunn has.

Well thanks to steelbed45 I got the bassic, been on the road all day going out and getting it, but it was free so couldn't not go get it for the price of gas. And my friend had coupons for free taco bueno so today's food was free as well.

Gotta go pickup my laptop bag at my friends then I can see what's up with this thing.

Speaking of rigs, GAS, new stuff, etc., I got bit by the Hovercraft bug this spring and placed an order for a bass spec Dwarvenaut. It arrived a few weeks ago, but I kept it under wraps until I had a chance to dial it in and get comfortable with it. Three gigs in and I'm ecstatic! The aesthetics, obviously, are great but what I like is how I can get a really gritty tone with plenty of presence & low end, then I add in the pedalboard to get to blissfully filthy tonal territory. Also, it's my smallest and lightest head, so it's convenient for the gigs/venues MDT's doing these days. It doesn't have as much power as the AD200 or the F800B, but it's been a while since I've had a gig where I can utilize all the power those amps have on tap. Here's a pic:

The dude that builds Hovercrafts, Nial McGaughey, was good to work with on this; good communication and plenty of patience and answers for my many questions. I would recommend if anyone else felt so inclined to try out a Hovercraft.

Sublime's a good fuzz for any occasion.

Worst release show yet tonight. Lesson learned. Release shows should be held between September and June. Summer weekends are not a good option. Feel kinda bummed considering I think this is our strongest album to date....we still had 120 people come through the door, but half were there just for the arcades and pinball.

Oh well. It just means we need to wait a bit longer before being able to afford going back to the studio.

sucks to hear man. i think this is the most solid album you guys have done so far! riffs for days.

shaging rad. the guy who runs my practice space is gagging for one of these. hopefully he gets one, because it means he'll sell his 70s bassman to my guitarist..

Morning, doomsters. Hope everyone had/is having a solid weekend. Monday sucks as always plus I've got a heeccttic stomach ache carrying on from last night. Waiting for nature to take its course...all the way into the bathroom.

Went to see Pelican on Saturday night. Probably one of the most satisfying shows I've been to this year so far. I have mates in both the support acts so it was great to catch up after so long. They both played really great sets...probably the best I've seen them to date. I know one of the bands in particular, We Lost The Sea, were so incredibly stoked to play alongside Pelican. Left it all on the stage.

Pelican were amazing. Last time they came down was in 2007 which I missed out on. Played some of my favourites off the new record as well as some solid classics like "Strung Up..." and "Dead Behind the Walls". Ended their set with "Mammoth" off their first EP which is easily one of their heaviest songs to date. Couldn't believe I was hearing it live...and they tore the place down during that performance.

Bryan, the bass player, was rocking his regular ol' EBMM Stingray through an Ampeg SVT classic and matching 810. I was really surprised at how minimal his "board" was. Literally three pedals: Sansamp BDDI, Fulltone Bass Drive and a Boss TU3 tuner. He was sounding mighty fierce and had absolutely no trouble dominating the stage.

Speaking of sound, holy poopie were they loud. I had a pair of pretty heavy duty earplugs fitted really nicely and I was still copping it. By far the loudest gig of 2014 (and I went to see Earth last month too!)

Was only able to take a couple pics since my phone battery was almost dead. The last one is of my mate and I at the front during Mammoth. Trevor, the guitarist, went nuts and trapped over his board. Rather than get up, he powered through the song while having a moment. Pulled out my phone and took a cheeky selfie with Trevor and my mate on the left. The band thought it amusing too and shared it on their Instagram thing.
