Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

The whole thing is they are guitar cabs. For the same money you could buy a pile of 412's.
What's your point? It seems to me he's been using them as a bass rig, though I could be wrong, and either way, what part of using the 6x12s as part of a dirty/treble rig is confusing? I'm not looking for thunderous lows from them, they'd be used for high and mid content. And this is all hypothetical anyway, since I'm almost certainly not getting them. I never thought this was the thread where someone would be saying "getting two Electric 6x12s is silly". Look at all them bass players who have used guitar cabs: Squire, Bruce, Redding, Entwistle, Butler, Cornick, etc, etc.
So far only got to do a little bit of messing around through the crate 15 watt combo but it's nice yea, been a while since I played full scale and rounds it's nice for that 90's tone.
What about bands that are just old?
So many bands borderline Sabbath worship. How do you decide what's retro vs most "stoner rock"? Most Stoner stuff has a little bit of 70s throwback.

Only 4-15s... But poopie gets pretty DOOM when I want.
Not doom related but I know there's a few hip hop heads on here, tonight in royal oak I saw beat junkies, emcee supernatural, dilated peoples, and Jurassic 5 and I was shaging dope, all the dj's melted the wax. Supernatural pointed out me and girl durning one of his freestyles and it made my night. Now I'm on my way home to roll up and get back writing these new riffs, bout to have some decently recorded demos to show you guys soon too.

So many bands borderline Sabbath worship. How do you decide what's retro vs most "stoner rock"? Most Stoner stuff has a little bit of 70s throwback.
Quite honestly I'm pretty tired of most "stoner rock". Anything that just sticks to pentatonic riffing for an entire album and wear way too much denim
. Then you have all the Electric Wizard worshipping bands and those are just as tiresome. I feel the genre in general has become extremely watered down and very cookie cutter. Hell even the new Sleep and Electric Wizard tracks were pretty lack luster. It's like they've become parodies of themselves.Like the new Curse the Son album that everyone seems to be blowing their wad over. I don't see what the big deal is. It sounds like 50 other releases in the last year. Stoner rock fans seem to be getting less sophisticated and more gulible. it seems all you need is a female singer and it's instant cred.
I don't know why I'm so jaded but I can't be the only one that sees this...am I?

Worst release show yet tonight. Lesson learned. Release shows should be held between September and June. Summer weekends are not a good option. Feel kinda bummed considering I think this is our strongest album to date....we still had 120 people come through the door, but half were there just for the arcades and pinball.
Oh well. It just means we need to wait a bit longer before being able to afford going back to the studio.

Actually, Aaron from Yob seemed to favor the bridge pickup on his EGC pretty heavily for anything fast, tonight.
I love the Fargo movie's main overture theme. It's strangely epic for something that takes place in south dakota.
My guitarist plays some pretty mean drums. Lives in Concord and is already in three bands, though...
Even though I think tort looks vastly better on white than it does on any other color, I still prefer white on white. Maybe it reminds me of Hendrix's strat or something.

My friend in the folk/rock band has a PC and uses cubase.

Why are you switching away from the 2x15 to the 8x10? You don't seem excited about that.
If the vocals are the ugliest heard outside of Indian or Laudanum or Graves at Sea... they're probably from Dixie Dave.

I actually really liked the new Sleep song. It was fun.
However... I'm actually generally very, very picky when it comes to straight up retro/stoner stuff. I don't like most of it. I don't dislike it either, I just can't get excited about it. It's too derivative.
I mean, my current favorite doom bands are Yob, Neurosis, and SubRosa. Sleep is up there, but today I was mainly listening to Laudanum, Bongripper, and Thou. I think that is definitely pretty illustrative of what I like in my doom metal. I prefer to go for bands that sound very obviously like themselves.
Speaking of Yob, I saw them for the sixth time tonight. They were amazing, as always. Different set every time I've seen them. Chatted briefly with Mike and more with Aaron, and they were super chill, as has always been the case before.
But now I'm going to be all sore and tired for Catapult's show with Sea of Bones tomorrow. shag.

Yes Hendrix's white strat definitely made the appeal of all white. The chrome covers would be awesome but squier put new high mass bridges on stuff including this model, need to see if I can fit a bridge cover over it.
I like a lot of heavy rock, and some metal. It's hard for me to try and put music like this, into one exact genre besides Stoner Rock. I still listen to the bands that first got me into this type of music, pretty regularly. Goatsnake, Torche, High on Fire, Weedeater, Black Cobra, Sleep, Black Sabbath, I'm not super into death metal vocals. That's why I don't really listen to death metal, and got more into power violence, on the faster side of things.
I can do shouting. Hell, I love bands like SPAZZ, Titanarum( San Diego), and Scholastic Death.
For this type of music, I always liked Motörhead and Lemmy's vocal. Matt Pike took it to the next level. Not to say I can't do extreme vox, I like Wolves in the Throneroom (in small doses). I don't like when it sounds like the vocals are modified with distortion and sound fizzy. Reminds me of Metalcore. I just can't dig. That's what makes us individuals.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I either listen to my old first-wave stoner albums, obscure heavy rock from the 60s and 70s or newer bands that are on the fringe of the stoner genre. Hypnos 69 and Astra are great for a prog fix, i will always love Los Natas, jammier bands like Colour Haze, i guess bands need to have that something extra that can't always be defined, but i know it when i hear it.
What a crazy show last night. Tons of people, mostly teens. Played on the floor like a house show since the stage was broke. Got pushed into my rig by one of the biggest pits I've ever seen for a band i was playing in. I'm fat and have never sweat so much in my life. Sweat was coming off my head like the time my head was gashed open from a car accident. Twas a good show.
So, I want to get a similar tolex pattern, eventually, to the one on old Sunns, like on my 2000S cab.
But I want it in white and dark grey. I don't think it comes in those colors.

Funny how White seems to be the new tolex color of choice these days. I think it was Musicians Friend that had the Fender T100 and 410 in white, bad ass looking IMHO. The ox blood combo is different but I just don't feel it as much, if I had the choice between that or silver face? I'd go silver face.
