Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I am saving that schematic for later. Not sure on the caps, I know that they can be polarized and that it helps in certain filtering cases (rare ones) to remove unwanted AC current. 10uf is fairly normal, 47uf is probably there due to the ridiculous output. Likely to reduce some harsh high frequencies.

I'm mostly talking out of my @$$, soooo if someone else wants to jump in here that would be nice :) Where's that Dunwich guy? xD

10uf and 47uf are pretty typical for power filtering/stiffening, but as coupling caps, those are pretty ginormous values. What makes it even weirder is there are plenty of your "typical" coupling cap values used in there too. The 4.7n, 1n, and .047uf are pretty "standard", and a fraction of 10uf/47uf. At 10uf/47uf, I imagine you wouldn't be filtering out any audible frequency. They'd pretty much let any (audible) AC through, but block any DC. Maybe that was the designer's though, he didn't want to cut any frequencies out, but just block DC, and went with 10uf/47uf just because they were big enough and handy. Personally, I don't like to use polarized caps for coupling, but I do know it's doable. You're right though, I think abnormally huge polarized caps do have a higher ESR to high frequencies than lower, but I could be misunderstanding. I'm self-taught, not properly edumacated like Dunwich. :)

I'm also just self taught, and only have a very rudimentary understanding of how such things work. I was probably thinking in terms of nF or something, I think 10nF is more along a normal value. DUNWICHYOUCANJUMPINANYTIMENOWANDSTOPMEFROMSPOUTINGOFFTHISMISINFORMATION!!!

Haven't done a real gear mix up in quite awhile. With the Bluebeard, El Oso and Wizard Fuzz, I've got a lot of dirt diversity where I don't feel the need to buy any other dirt pedal, although I still kind of want a Black Sheep and the EQD demo with Juan Alderete had me wanting to try a few things. I think I'm set for life on cabs with the Dually. I had a big change from the Ric to the EGC over a year ago. Still deciding on if I want to pull the trigger on a HI-TONE, that would be a pretty big change for me.

It's been really hard for to decide which tube I want built next year, I'm about to be done paying my car and I think it's either gonna be a 300 watt elder giant by hovercraft or a hi-tone, either way I was gonna get the hovercraft the voice switch so it can have hi-watt mode and elder giant mode which I hear is very svt like, also I'm kinda intrigued by the hover goodie bags you get with your amp too, possibly a ticket to hoverfesf!?

Go Dunwich!!! He's got a wife now, he'll need all the dough he can get.

Huh I met a lot of new people over the weekend with the recording thing.

Most interesting encounter had to be this girl who everyone told me was a lesbian and had a girlfriend. This was true as even she said so. But then later after drinks got right up on me and said she's bi. Now she says I'm always welcome over or she'd come visit me, I have "strong feminine energy" she wants to experience or something. Not sure what that means but I'll show her my man parts if that's what she's really wanting.

Sounds like it is going to be a "Strapon thursday" kinda scenario....
