Yeah, I've been off face book and been lurking TB. A dude spent $175 on a custom tort guard, and didn't want to pay a restock fee, since he didn't like it, and wanted to return it. Some people came to defend the consumer. I dealt with people like this at my last job, so no sympathy from me. I sided with the one man business. His disclaimer clearly represents his policy on returns. People still want to bash the business, even though they have not looked at the content of the website. It's just a gang up on this dude. And, the OP made a poopie ton of posts on other forums to attempt to strong arm the owner into going against his return policy. It's just people trying to screw each other... I hate it.

So are these like super custom one off weird things? Or just a insanely expensive tort like a real damn tortoise?

My custom squier bass vi pickguard in not common at all red pearl was between $40-$60 I'm pretty sure. That hurt, but it's totally understandable and special (and Troy Neagle on talkbass out of Austin makes great stuff!).

If you are looking for an exact specific look with a long list of details that must be 100% accurate, then I am not your guy. You are hiring me as an artist to create you a one of a kind, vintage 60’s looking tortoiseshell pickguard. I require some artistic licensing since creating tortoiseshell is somewhat of an uncontrollable process. In most cases I can get about 80% close to the look that you are going for, but there are no guarantees. All pictures shown on my website are from previous customers and are intended to be examples and in no way can I 100% replicate any specific picture, but I can come close. Each guard is a one of a kind piece of art. Welcome to the wonderful world of Tortoiseshell!

Checked out spitfire and his front page says this.

The tort is all handmade. No two guards look the same. Supposed to be the most authentic looking tort offered today. Take it for what you will. I'm happy with the tort on my Carvin. No need to drop huge money (to me) on something so cosmetic. You think a regular audience member is going to give two *****? Nope. It's the equivalent of girls buying $500 shoes (IMO).
