i might just see if i can build a tiny box with tip/sleeve reversed

this is a great video by the way, has me thinking my blended tone could work better by toying with polarity

Sitting here with my band mates and girlfriend at the hotel, pre-gaming hard for sleep tomorrow, my vocalist Just texted me and laid a new band name on us to go with the new concepts he's bringing to the band lyrically, he wants to go with Bone chapel and honestly I think it's simple and bad ass and makes more sense then " the eternal dogmother" considering that his approach is very satanic and ritualistic. Looking forward to jamming Sunday forsure, he's had a lot of material waiting for us.


Also Saturday my drummers thrash band will be playing with the recently reunited thrash legends morbid saint, so a whole lot of music on this end.

Question to all, can a ric sound dark? Trying to change my sound up a bit and have been a cranky grit dude since day one. Kinda want to use the white ric more but my brain keeps thinking p bass.

That sucks, but I can understand it. I've done the same thing before, but it was about 11 years ago. I was in two bands and one got offered a tour, only had time to do one. Hopefully you guys find a replacement soon.

Yeah, I just hate the process of doing so. Because the drummer has to be good, lock in well with me, and also be someone we all get along with. Those things don't always go together, unfortunately. Especially because I'm picky. Specifically, I feel that if you're joining an established band, you should kinda play the parts the way they already go, not rewrite them initially. Apparently this is not something others agree with.

Well, just got from band practice. Turns out we're not going to go instrumental after all. Today I sang my first lines, even if it's like twenty words in a 14 minute song. I pretty much suck, but it's definitely going somewhere.
Also: turns out the lefty P/J bass I bought yesterday has a J neck. That's a nice twist.

Remember to sing confidently and project. If you sing timidly, you're going to definitely suck.

Sure. Neck pickup, tone rolled back. Or neck pickup plus a bit of the bridge pickup for more definition, with the tone rolled back on at least one of them.

I think I've got the hang of it, the guys say they like it, so I guess I'm doing OK
I was for going instrumental and it seemed it's going to work for a while, but the rest became hell bent that there must be some kind of vocals.
There's hope we'll be recording our demo somewhere near the end of the year, we've got one song completed and three more in various stages of completion with gazillion of loose riffs to put somewhere.

I can't get into anything past the Bon Scott era with AC/DC. And even then, I wouldn't go out and buy it. It gets boring after a few songs. For me, that is.


Yeah. I really hate modern horror films, generally.

Mostly because they're more concerned with being horror films than with being good films. I'd rather watch a movie that I wasn't sure really classified as horror, but was a damn fine movie, than one that was obviously horror but predictable schlock.

And nobody does suspense, or even really intelligent plotlines in horror anymore, it seems. It's all just gimmicky jump-out and gross-out stuff. Also, speaking of which, people seem to have this idea that something being gross is the same as it being scary. It's not. Gross is just gross.

I guess I never developed enough fondness for horror movies to put up with the various flaws so many of them have (not that horror movies are the only ones with flaws... just... they tend to have a lot of them, even in comparison with other movies). Especially the fact that so often, the characters in horror movies seem to exist in a universe where nobody has ever seen a horror movie, because they go and do stupid things that nobody who's ever seen one would do.

I also really hate movies that do such a bad job with character-building that audiences can't connect to the characters at all and end up giving into the worst aspects of themselves and rooting against the characters, reducing the movie, often-times, to glorified gore-porn. **** that ****. That's disgusting. If you are a film-maker and people end up cheering when horrible things happen to your characters, you are a ****ing failure.

I much prefer movies like Jaws or the old version of The Wicker Man. Stuff that's somewhat hard to classify according to genre because it's plot driven and more concerned with being interesting than cartoonishly scary. Jaws in particular is great because the shark becomes this almost mythical thing, an inhuman force of nature. Even though the protagonist in The Wicker Man is an arrogant, self-righteous douche, I can still connect with him and sympathize a bit, moreso at least than the cardboard excuses for characters lots of modern horror flicks have.

Alien and Aliens were also ****ing great, even if the characters who weren't Ripley often did stupid ****.

Speaking of which, one movie I liked recently was Prometheus. It wasn't perfect, but it had a more old-school style of pace and plotting, I feel. Seemed like they prioritized making a good plot before making it scary.
