Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Sorry I ment the GS412I remember the DB series is supposed to be very scooped sounding to they'd. The GS I played was pretty loud loud but that was in store so....

The GS are the "modern sound" scooped ones. The DB are the vintage sound with "punchy midrange". I have a GS 4x10, and would trade it for a DB if I could.

I was to understand this^^^

Thanks for the excellent response ampegfuzz. I have a lot to consider. That SVTAV for $450 is really making me consider questionable credit choices as two 810s would be pretty nasty.

If it helps for the purpose of doom, the aggy is in monster green. Hahaha.
I play a Spector Legend Custom 4. I find it really easy to get it to sit in the mix, the EQ I mostly reserve for any corrections I need to make based on the room while keeping the amp and effects set flat. Sometimes a bit of a mid boost or cut is needed to cut through or eliminate mud.

For recording, I usually plug it directly into an interface or go from my amp's direct out. Usually needs very little work to get it to sit right.

(edit) I should mention, if you find one of the Legend series bubinga basses, buy that shite. A friend of mine has one and it's what caused my Spector purchasing xD His is beat to hell and I would still trade him for my "like new" condition in a second.
I had a bubinga Legend 6. I slapped a Bartolini deep tone in the neck position to cop and old school tone from the neck position. I should of kept it but I went back to four strings and passive basses. I kind of dig Spectors.

My guitarist has one of those Peavey Classic combos from the 80s. Put some dirt in front of it, f-ing sludge machine. That thing gets loud too!
I really want him to rehouse the amp and put it on a 4x12.
Or run the combo into a 4x12. We only did that once.

Yeah I was thinking to make a head out of an old Classic or Heritage combo. There is a youtube video of a guy playing bass through a Heritage and it sounded great through the clean and dirt channels.

Fire alarm just went off at work. Man, that sh*t is loud.
I was out back smoking wondering where that alarm was coming from. Oh... my building. Called the management to see if there are supposed to be any tests. Their office is closed. haha. Fire Truck showed up I told them I had no idea what was going on. They checked the building out, reset the alarm and said everything is cool.

Drummer I'm supposed to be jamming with on Sunday just sent me an email, letting me know he found another guitarist who is really into Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky and Nothing and asking if I'd be down to go in that direction instead. *sigh*

Sounds like my old bands guitarist. Also gybe and mono...

Stuff was ok, nothing I listened to on my own, but the long jammy riffing style I learned from it did drive me here!

Well i put a set of ghs rounds on the ric to replace the questionable xl's and...

-More tension, a bonus for me
-Louder strings, also a plus
-Darker new then the worn xl's, found that kinda weird.
They feel slightly ruff, non issue as of yet

Needed a swap since I feared a string break but almost a wash tonally. I'll make up for it with the EQ on the amp so no biggie. Think I might break down and order circle k's next string change.

Dark out of the box? I'm interested in that.

So Power Amps...
I'm reading up on them right now.
Trying to figure out how they work I guess. I see they are 2 channels. I have a Ric now. And my cab is capable of splitting 4x10 on top and bottom. So I'm looking to see how to make that work. I'm guessing I'd need two Pre Amps and the Power Amp?

For the two channels to sound different from each other you'd need two preamps. There are some preamps that have multiple outputs but they aren't common. In the big picture it's a waste of time into the same cabinet. It would sound the same into a mixer and output mono in the cab.

Well technically the bottom 4 speakers are Legends and the top 4 are the stock neo speakers so... :p But I got you.
Just looking into options. Keep low and clean neck pickup on the bottom 4 and some gnarly bridge tones up top.
Seeing what I can do. I have no band so now shows and no mixer.

Touché.
Everything is worth trying once.
Been rolling through preamps for a couple of years now. Honestly I'm ready to go back to something simpler and a pedalboard.
Nothing I've found is exactly right and hell now I've got a preamp and a rackmount compressor and I've been looking at dummy loads for my preamp
Seems like it doesn't end.
I'm ready to go back to a head.
If you need something to fill the time it definitely does that.
There is a V-Type on the classifieds now if your curious.

Have heard mixed reviews of this Page Hamilton version of the band. Betty is a strange mix of tunes. Caught them on the meantime tour and walked away impressed. Their angular approach to melody set them apart.

Just got back. I expected less to say the truth. It was pretty nice. Provided I got wasted with my firends, it was a pretty cool evening.
Page Hamilton comes through as a bit of a star wannabe and a bit of a douche, but otherwise they gave a tight, decent show. All the good songs were played and a tour t-shirt was bought.
Bass player played a Gallien Krueger head through an Ampeg 810 with some kind of double soapbar pup bass. Sounded pretty sweet.

V-type?
Yeah, this is mostly research at this point. As I am totally lost with all this rack stuff.
I enjoy a simple set up. I think I'm craving a new head at this point. Really been wanting to try an Aguilar or Mesa one of these days. Although, I would really like to have a solid state or hybrid around for flavor.
My roomie has a couple guitar heads laying around... That could be interesting and give me a general idea of what's going on.

V-type is a Trace Elliott preamp. There's talk that it's an Alembic F1 copy, but they're all just riffing on the FMV tonestack.
Should be mostly clean tones and very classic.
If you really want to do this get you a Peavey IPR or Crest Prolite poweramp. The old Crest CA series are also good. Any of these poweramps are easy to drive with a variety of preamps. F#ck Crown. Too hard to drive.
