Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So played last night in Cedar Rapids all went ok. Rig was suffering slightly from those strings. Think I'll throw them on the white ric since I'm trying to get a more dark/muddy tone with that bass and rig. Now I have no idea what to put on the brown ric. Guess I'll give a final verdict when I play thru my 810 at the jam spot before I jump to conclusions and start ripping stings off.
Olde Growth is more straight up stoner.
Talbot is trippy heavy has growled vocals and singing cool keyboard sample action going on too. At least the EOS album is. Haven't heard the new one yet. I can't even remember how the first album sounds. haha

I've seen Black Cobra live a couple times and enjoyed them a lot. Although I agree, I think they would sound even better with a bassist. I'm available and within driving distance of the bay area, just saying.

Digging the new tunes the guys have busted out with lately... 4 new ones to put in muscle memory.
Little more of the beginning to jell stage.
I'm not contributing much writing other than keeping the bottom end and some fills here and there...
There have been a few spots I'm able to sneak in some power chords, really thickens up the attack.
But it's hardcore so Dbeat in and out with a little groove doom riff here and there...
I need to rehearse more often solo and keep the ideas churning to bring to the table.
Daughter was in the room with her over ear headphones on. She was singing her tunes in her own world while we were tightening up the riffs.
Guys loved it. I shake me head back and forth, I shake me head back and forth, I shake me head back and forth...
Talking to several folks that I haven't seen in years at the chili cook off about pending divorce, they get a faraway look in their eyes.
Like yeah man... Change the subject.
Daughter had a blast. Was in the pool for at least 6+ hours. Didn't wake up today till 10... Later for her.

I love Black Cobra, their drummer is a shaging beast - but yeah that could use a bass player.
trying out my guitarist friend from the misfits cover band on wednesday at robot studio in LA., only problem is he can sing and play drums way better than the remaining members of our avante drone metal stripshow band. hopefully, he will balance out his crazy chops with enough beer to sloppify his playing and desensitize his ears
Oh also tried biamping the 210+218 last night,with great success. Sounded amazeballs but still doesn't compare to running a second stack.
My best friend is going through a really sudden and nasty separation/divorce right now. He's been with her almost as long as my wife and I have been together, though we've been married for almost 12 years and they were married for about 2. It broke both mine and my wife's heart, I was empathetic to his situation and had a bunch of long talks with him about it. I can't imagine being distant with him about that or worrying about how it reflects on my marriage or if it will give my wife ideas or something like that. I know that a lot of married people gets super antsy when you start talking about divorce though, as though the only thing keeping the marriage together is that everyone just forgot divorce is a thing. I've noticed a lot people never communicate sincerely and have weird, passive aggressive relationships with their spouses though. Those people act like their spouse was picked out of a lottery and stuck with them, instead of a long term relationship by choice. A lot of things other people do mystify me in general though, so it's not saying much when I say I don't understand why people act a certain way. I generally try to be a good listener and empathetic to my friend's problems, even if I haven't experienced them directly myself. I can attempt to put myself in their point of view and think about how I'd feel in that situation, at least.
Have you tired Hi-Beams on a Ric? I hated them on my Ps but they sound really good on my Ric. La Bella SS are nice too and my fail safe are DR SS Lo-Riders on my Rics.
I haven't but the ric is in drop B. I'll have to look to see of they make a set with big enough strings. Dr's are expensive to be buying a 5 string set to toss a string away.
