Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Just woke up... Wow that's late and semi impressive.

Time to ride my bike or something then go see my friends band play a house show with the headliner being a band called the Shidiots out of Nebraska.

Friday I was supposed to go to a house show but my friends found the band too loud... It was heavy stoner rock far as I could hear with a pretty sweet bassist/vocalist, but we left right as I saw them.

There was also a dude dressed as a clown for no reason. Acting like he was just another guest and didn't happen to be a damn clown... My friend lives next door so we got our own beer and watched the party from his balcony. I guess that clown realized how alienated he was because he kept going to the backyard to smoke little cigars and do lines like Dr. rockso lol!

Cool. Yeah, this bass I'm looking at is definitely plywood. But you know, I've owned a few plywood guitars (and maybe a plywood bass or two) over the years and I really got no problem with them. They've all been at least decent and some were really killer.

I wouldn't call them doom but both OM and Big Business are heavy bass/drum two pieces that churn up some interesting brew.

Sounds forkin' awesome!
I do dig Om, even though they're a three piece now. Haven't heard Big Business.

And yeah... I guess that's what I would justify owning an eight string Rickenbacker for, lol.

So played last night in Cedar Rapids all went ok. Rig was suffering slightly from those strings. Think I'll throw them on the white ric since I'm trying to get a more dark/muddy tone with that bass and rig. Now I have no idea what to put on the brown ric. Guess I'll give a final verdict when I play thru my 810 at the jam spot before I jump to conclusions and start ripping stings off.
For me it's always been D'Addario nickel XLs on my Rickenbacker. Actually, on everything.

Also there's Bismuth in the bass drum duos world...like Stonehenge but music, Uber slow, disgusting tone.

And cough cough, Galactic Hatchet, cough cough
Haven't heard either of these. Could be cool. And I'm sure everyone's looking forward to Galactic Hatchet.

My best friend is going through a really sudden and nasty separation/divorce right now. He's been with her almost as long as my wife and I have been together, though we've been married for almost 12 years and they were married for about 2. It broke both mine and my wife's heart, I was empathetic to his situation and had a bunch of long talks with him about it. I can't imagine being distant with him about that or worrying about how it reflects on my marriage or if it will give my wife ideas or something like that. I know that a lot of married people gets super antsy when you start talking about divorce though, as though the only thing keeping the marriage together is that everyone just forgot divorce is a thing. I've noticed a lot people never communicate sincerely and have weird, passive aggressive relationships with their spouses though. Those people act like their spouse was picked out of a lottery and stuck with them, instead of a long term relationship by choice. A lot of things other people do mystify me in general though, so it's not saying much when I say I don't understand why people act a certain way. I generally try to be a good listener and empathetic to my friend's problems, even if I haven't experienced them directly myself. I can attempt to put myself in their point of view and think about how I'd feel in that situation, at least.
Damn, that sucks for him.

I definitely think a lot of people have unhealthy dynamics with their partners. You have to have open, honest communication, and trust. Without that, things are not going to be headed in a good direction.

I wonder if my friends who are in couples got antsy about hanging out with me when my ex broke up with me.

Some minor repairs, turned into new porch. Too bad I didn't foresee needing a permit. My 10'x12' porch is now 36"x50". At least til I can get permit.

Ron sorry about the need for cash , hopefully someone on here can buy it and sell it back to you later.

Signed up for Soundcloud (then found out I'd already signed up a long time ago).

Anyway here's a track from our practice on Friday.

EDIT: btw, any tips, comments appreciated. Drums are loud because we just used the built in mics and our room is wide, forcing the recorder close to the drums.

Had a second jam with that drummer today. It was supposed to be with a guitarist, but he never showed up. The drummer was equally peeved. Thankfully he blew off that post rock guitarist/idea and it didn't derail everything. Who knew finding a guitarist would be the hardest part of putting a band together though?

That sucks Ron, I feel your pain, I had a bunch of unexpected expenses right before the kid was born that wiped out my entire gear fund. Start selling plasma and hold onto that preamp.

When I asked for a photo, he said he had to go. About 30 minutes he came back as he needed someone's ID for his report. I asked if we could get that photo, to which he replied "yeah, I gotta get this guys info, but if you put your arm around me and take it while I'm talking to him, it'll look like you just snuck on me."

He then have me his email so I could send it to him, and told us 3rd shift was coming on an they wouldn't be as cool, but he'd be back on shift later if we needed anything.

Best university officer ever.

Ok I haven't even read this yet, but the pic earns a thumbs up. :-)
