Why no babies???!? Get 'em started young.
We often ignore this, but let's not kid ourselves. The volumes we play at are damaging to the human ear.
That's a fact.
I wear ear plugs, and even if some people at my shows don't, well, they on some level chose to be there, and chose not to wear ear plugs. That's fine, it's their choice, so I have no problem with potentially inflicting hearing damage on them.
That's not the case with a baby. I'm not okay with bringing people who have no choice in the matter into a situation that will result in physical injury (which, when you get down to the bones of it, is what hearing damage is, even if it is a mild injury) without them having any input or a say in the matter. I don't like parents making me party to the injury of their infants. And while I'm sure some parents do try to protect their babies' ears, I haven't actually seen it done, though I have seen babies at shows.
My opinion is different with kids who aren't babies anymore, because usually they have ear plugs in when I see them with their parents at shows. And while I don't know how the family dynamic works for all cases, I imagine that the parents might have said "do you want to go to the concert with us?" and the kid may have had some choice in whether or not to go.
Anyway, that's enough standing on a soap box for me, but that's why no babies. I'll shut up on this for now.

Got to roll into Portland this weekend, choke some bitches out, then dash back to Boise. Very fun time.
Learning new songs with Mariana is one of the most painful processes in the world. All the guys are so ADD they just want to move on to playing. So, isntead of getting to work through new parts we just get to jam on our current songs. Taking steps to provide the songs to them all figured out...I write everything on guitar already, basslines are mine, and can track all the drums in EZdrummer/Reaper. Just need to send 'em the new stuff all nice and packaged and say, "learn this **** b!tches! we'll be playing it next week!" Will be interesting how that turns out.
I'm generally of the opinion that learning riffs and song stuff is best done in bassist/guitarist low volume sessions, rather than at rehearsal. Because the drums kinda dictate the volume at rehearsal, in my experience, it's too loud to get much done in terms of songwriting there. Especially if you have more than three people in the band.
Still the heaviest band I've ever seen. I've been to tons of Death Metal shows. I guess it's just the vibe filthy, heavy, fat riffs mixed with booze. Yeah! Their sets are just massive.
I wasn't at this show. I've only seen them 4 times between 2009-2011
I saw them with Graves at Sea. I dunno, maybe it just wasn't that great a show for them, but they weren't quite the amazingness I'd been expecting, though they were definitely cool. Probably didn't help that Graves at Sea played an amazing set to what was basically a hometown crowd, too.
The bassist from doom metal band Orodruin plays a Jazz bass. Chris Kosnik from Atomic Bitchwax, Black NASA and Monster Magnet plays a Jazz (identical to the one Sam bought a while back, LPB with the matching headstock, tort guard and ashtrays). I've seen a lot of kind of in the trenches, random low to mid level stoner rock/heavy rock bands using Jazz basses, but I can't recall any big doom metal bands that do off the top of my head. Precisions and Rics tend to be more popular there, but I'm sure there are lots of exceptions.
Speaking of Graves at Sea, when I saw them, their bassist was playing a Jazz, too. Their previous bassist played a Rickenbacker and an EB-3, I think, though.
I love Rickenbackers, but it does seem odd to me sometimes that they're so popular in the stoner/doom metal community. I mean, not everyone uses one or has even ever owned one, as we established previously in this thread, but way more people do in this genre than among bassists in general.
Go figure.
