Actually, the only other metal bassist I know locally has an Eden 810. I probably could borrow that if I needed to. What old cab were you referring to?

Not speaking for him, but I assume with that loud amp most old speakers aren't going to handle it. So you can have a lot of vintage cabs and a lower wattage head like max to get loud. Or get a cab that can take all that head can throw out.

It's easy for me. I never wear shorts, ever. So I can get away with just having 20-30 pairs of black cotton socks.

Shorts are awesome. Especially when it's 100+. But yea if you just say no things get easy quick.

I spent most of my late teens and early 20's in cargo shorts. Mostly the same pair of cargo shorts too. Then nature flipped a switch in my head and I never wanted to wear shorts ever again. It might also coincide with the time I quit smoking a lot of weed. Whatever that's worth. I think the last time I wore shorts was on a southwest tour in 2007 and that was a special circumstance, due to extreme high temperature and being stuck in a van for 14 hours at a time.

Flip flops are my main footwear. Over the winter when I bought a bunch of different shoes, I had to buy special socks for every pair. It sucked I wasn't used to close toed tied shoes, and I just got new flops. I had blisters in every area of each foot from each shoes wear pattern, then I did go barefoot and got blisters on the bottoms of my feet too. For a couple weeks my feet looked like they belonged to a WWI soldier with the start of tench foot. Needless to say moral was low.

My SVT810 puts out all the low end I need for loud practices. Tuned A#. I crank my lows quite a bit too. When we gig I'm gonna run my 610 & 810 together. Want more headroom and together they really fill a room.

All the newer 412s I've played move some serious air. Even that old Marshall 412 i just picked up is surprisingly loud. A single 810/215/218/412 is a half stack.

I stopped wearing shorts when I lived in New Mexico - even on the hottest days it was so dry that the wind would blow through my jeans and evaporate any sweat.

Now I prefer not to wear shorts, but there's some days and situations that require it in the midwest. If it's humid, 90+ degrees and I'm doing physical work I'll throw on some shorts.

Going camping or doing work at the property I wear pants because there's mosquitoes, ticks, poison ivy, nettles, thorns and other ******** that I don't want to deal with.

I've never had an issue getting enough low end out of an Ampeg 810e. They may not going as low on a graph as ported cabs, but they pump out a lot of the low mids that make up the human ear's perception of low end. I haven't heard many bass cabs from the 70's on that didn't have enough low end. Maybe not enough volume, but that's not an issue with an 810.

Humid semi tropical Texas.

You know I'm an Eagle Scout and have done tons of camping in my scouting days and with friends and family and I've never experienced a tick? Leeches yes... Mosquitos will bite me but not very often and I don't get the itchy bump. Chiggers suck, but it's been a while since I got them.

Tons of thorns, a few poison ivy encounters. I think nettles don't exist here.

The thought of a dry climate like that always sounds awesome to me but I have never been so maybe it actually sucks LOL. Grew up in PA, spent four years in Florida, and now in VA. I hate long pants after living in Florida. I hate when it gets cold enough in Virginia to switch to pants. I hate humidity but I would rather it be hot than cold.

Landed an Orange Micro Terror for $85 on my local CL. Have to go to Birthday party in lovely Hampton VA tomorrow night LOL. So might as well meet the dude down the street at Bass Pro Shops with the Micro Terror and get myself at gift.

Pretty much every winter I wonder why the hell anyone would have settled in the northern half of the country 200 years ago. Then I remember that it was probably cold where they came from too. Still, I would have headed south.

Back then (and now) it was easier to stay warm than get cool.

My good friend, who played guitar in the last 3 punk bands I played bass in, volunteered to play guitar for the new band. He lives about 3 hours away currently, but he's getting divorced and has tons of free time and hasn't been in a band since he moved out of the area. I guess he just went to a stoner metal show in Sacramento the other night and realized how much fun it would be to rock some downtuned, fuzzed out riffs. We're really good at being in a band and arranging songs together and we haven't got to hang out very much in the last few years, so I'm totally pumped. We're going to get together this weekend to jam on some riffs and then get together with the drummer next weekend.

Ugh... Well I couldn't find any GK 12s to play through. Whats more frustrating is that I was texting my guitar player/band leader about my cab dilemma. His response was "Please don't feel like you need to cut through, we want you to make giant low growling bass tones." So I guess **** it. 810e it is. At least if I go that route and get some chewed up cab with functioning speakers I will probably be able to afford two of them.
