Awesome, I need to get the pickups and hardware mocked up and screw holes drilled on the Jazzbird and this post gives me motivation. Man how cool would be to slap another pup equidistant to the p pup but on the neck side of the body.

This landed last night and I love it. It could replace my SGFX Beta Bass since it comes pretty close to that sound but the Beta has the low mids and better pushed tube tone and the SFT has a touch of scoop. The SFT has more gain than the Beta, so the Beta into the SFT is wicked as I get the low mids, the grind going, and the heavy gain. I finally found the heavy overdrive guitar pedal I have been looking for, I'm not into biting highs for guitar overdrives so I love the EQ of the SFT on guitar, stoked to finally have a guitar higher gain overdrive I truly dig. The Green Russian clone into the SFT is wicked too, making me enjoy having a Muff again, like it takes away the flub that I hear with Muffs. Ron FN Super Fuzz into the SFT is killer too. It's pretty interesting how stacking pedals filters and boosts EQ frequencies, EQD Speaker Cranker>Catalinbread SFT>SGFX Beta for the win for me! Sorry for rambling but so FN stoked to dial in that tone in my head on both bass and guitar, now to remember to not touch the dials ever again LOL.

I actually was considering building a clone of this. Does it work well for adding just a pinch of grit, always on?

Oh yeah total Ampeg amp in a box, like having a Ampeg non-digital preamp but no DI. Clean boost, to touch of grit, to lots of grit. To be honest the Speaker Cranker, the Beta, or the SFT will do what you want, the Beta does it the best IMO though, but they are very close behind the Beta with the EQD being the lowest gain of all three. I had the Behringer Sansamp BDDI clone and didn't really care for it but love the SFT. I am running my amp totally clean too, so lots of gain available.

Oh I forgot it does the tube amp thing where you can set high gain then roll back to clean using the volume control on your bass.

Buy both, the combination of them both, stellar! The lows and low mid prevalence of the Bassic(Faital) almost gives too much emphasis to those frequencies when running the Beta solo so the SFT tweaks it back to Nirvana somehow but I bet in a band mix the Beta would be perfection. You gig so much I would start with the Beta IMO.

I would love to try the Catalinbread 5f6 Fender Bassman style foundation overdrive too. FN Catalinbread is squared away. Here is a video but you have to wait till the end till he uses a bass with the 5f6. Dude designs killer pedals and has chops too!
