Congrats! I love my SB-2. They are ******* awesome. I'm assuming the maple neck means that is MIA?
Is usa made. Ordered it the begining of august.
Went with the no 5 neck and was worried it might be a little chunky but its the narrowest (neck depth) of my basses.
Plays fast as f%$$!

I have not had the pleasure to play a #5. My SB-2 has a #6 and my old JB2 had a #8. Fast as f%$$ is indeed correct. But I am a bit of a G&L fanboy. Every time I sell one it is only a matter of months before I buy another one. I will always keep an open mind about new instruments but I don't think I will ever get over my G&L fixation. I wanted to try and find a used Ric after I get my tax returns, but have been tossing around the idea of an SB1 another SB2 or an LB-100 with a #6 and a Geezer pup installed. As much as I love the look of maple boards, tonally speaking, I am consistently drawn to rosewood. Thinking LPB+tort or BWB.
If I still like this bass in 6 months as much as I do now i can see myself selling of my JB's to buy another sb2.
I played friend of mines rics (late 70's-he plays or played in HELM - check them out) and didn't like how the head stock shape carried further down into the neck than fender basses. I felt like my thumb was on the back of the headstock and not yet into the neck profile when playing the first or second fret. Love the look of ric's though.
Maple board and gloss finish neck is a must have for me.
I am with you 100% on the gloss finish. I know that satin "should" be faster, but I guess my hands aren't fast enough to notice a difference. Also for whatever reason satin necks feel kind of cheap to me which is fine if its a cheap bass, but if it costs 1k+ I needs the shine.
I have only ever played a Ric once. I am uncertain of the model, but I know it wasn't a 4001 or 4003. I really didn't like the feel of it and it sounded pretty thin to me. I am to understand though, that Ric neck profiles can vary quite a bit over the decades. I can only assume that the one I played was a dud and that there has got to be one out there that at the very least speaks to me in a way that lets me know why people rave about them. They look so awesome and have a fantastic character tone. I just need to play more of them.
Or maybe I am just a P bass guy. G&Ls are cheaper and I have not played one I didn't love. The **** resale is also pretty sweet from a fanboy perspective because I can afford all the G&Ls. It wouldn't stop me from ordering new either if I had that kind of cheese in the coldcut drawer.

An electronic tempura, basically an Indian drone machine.
Feel free to correct me people, but In classic Indian music the raga is like the fundamental spirit or theme of a piece and is constructed around like 5 notes. A melody leads pieces like a sitar, but there's also rhythm like tablas and then drones which the tempura can provide. So like if the root note of the raga is an E the then a tempura plays an E as a drone, multiple tempuras can drone or other drone instruments and drone out say E it's octave and a 5th while the melody is played over them.
Said Om uses one, then I saw some vids of guys using them with delay, fuzz flange etc.
My issue with it, is it just has an up and down note selector, which kinda keeps from doing different things it probably wasn't intended for. But if it featured keys you could like lock down that would be really cool.
