Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Congrats to @Rushing on his band's inking a deal with STB Records!
Ordered all the remaining parts to redo my first bass with the new Dimarzios. Switches, pots etc.
So I settled on a DPDT On-Off-On to switch Neck/Series/Bridge; 500k volume w/push pull to switch the bridge pickup series/parallel; and the Tonestyler bass 11 as the only tone control.
I remember reading @Satyrnine(?)'s build with the Dimarzio model j's in series and really want to give (something similar) a go.
Wondering if the 500k volume will be too bright sounding. Expecting the Tonestyler to be able to take care of that though.
The one thing I didn't get was a standard TS jack to replace my TRS jack I've been using with the EMGs. Shouldn't be an issue wiring but that interface has seen some hard use and it probably would have been smarter to replace it now too. We'll see if I can manage the rest of the wiring w/o killing anything and listen for crackles then.

Man, Pirates Press vinyl prices keep going up. The demand for vinyl is going to eventually price independant bands right out of the market. It's up to $1650 for 250 records, it was once at $1200. Shipping prices have also gone up and for us the US/CAD exchange rate makes it even worse.
Are they the only vinyl manufacturer that provide consumers with small batches?
I'd assume vinyl writing machines aren't cheap, presses are probably reasonable. I wonder if it's still profitable though with such custom work for a limited market.

That started out like a Lord Datassian tale then took a left turn...
they are not the only ones but they are still the cheapest by far when you factor in the sleeve and jacket printing. most of the other places don't offer the jackets and you have to get those done separately and that usually costs as much as the vinyl pressing.
Have you guys heard of that kickstarter that some company started about taking 3D printing technology to cut records? It was over funded in less that 3 days. Ive heard that if it makes it to full scale production, itll be around $6000 dollars. If it all works, I can see that revolutionizing the indie DIY vinyl scene.
If it does, Id seriously consider taking out a small loan to get a computer and a system like that to cut my own records on a per order basis as opposed to ordering 250 records (and actually 500 because VEGA did a 2LP) that I may never sell out of for 70% of the cost of a system that i make my own. I can see where I could even pay it back and maybe make a few extra bucks by doing friends bands vinyls at that point to.

interesting concept but I have my doubts that it would work very well as far as audio quality. In addition you would still need to purchase the wax, and from what I understand good quality wax for records is not easy to come by and would be expensive to buy in small quantities.
Its been a while dudes. The lack of mobile app (although I use the browser, it isn't as convenient for me at work LOL.) and for some reason the complete lack of any thread notification is killing me. I have been rocking the Ge turret Cthulhu since friday. This thing is a beast. Bias knob is subtle but adds a lot of tonal variety. The depth knob is pretty cool. The volume... this is the loudest pedal I own by far. I have also noticed that if I turn my bass volume down just slightly I do not really lose volume, but it changes the tonality of the fuzz pretty substantially. It allows for a much tighter sounding fuzz. I am digging it thoroughly. Currently waiting on a reverse polarity cable for my PP2+ before it actually makes it to the board.
Just sold my bass blower. I found the distortion to be a little to sizzley for my taste. I will certainly miss the massive bass boost and volume control that the pedal offered, but the speaker cranker and fire ant can do some magical things together and the Cthulhu is just raunchy. Still trying to figure out a preamp/ DI box for the board... debating between VMTD, tone hammer and recently had thoughts of partitioning the coin until a used Meatsmoke pedal pops up.
I am also debating the future for me and amps. I am pretty unenthusiastic about this 4 pro I have. There are certainly a lot of factors( stage setup, cabs, etc) but I just cannot seem to get this thing loud enough for what I need. Heresy I know. But at 4 ohms, 490watts is pretty unimpressive. If my guitar player would open his mind to science and let me put my cabs next to each other the volume issue would probably not exist as I would have 1kW behind me. As it stands he is dead set on my two cabs being split by the drummer and basically shuts down any justification I present as to why thats a bad idea. Its his project though and if thats the sound he wants, that is fine. But my limiter light flickers almost the entire set and I still have trouble really hearing/feeling the low frequencies(which are basically rolled off after 60hz, with low mids boosted). Maybe mono bridged into the 810 and another amp for my 215 is the solution. Maybe the Sunn into the 215 for dirt and the Eden into an 810 for clean and lows. Or maybe a pre/power amp set up to guarantee ample headroom. Lots of thinking and conderations to make. I am not in a rush as the 4 pro is getting the job done for now.
My girlfriend got me that same record player with tweed covering for christmas. They are ok for a cheap table. Suits my needs at least.
I love sushi. In STL we have a place called The Drunken Fish that is pretty miraculous.

This past friday I played a gig that was cooler than probably 75% of every show I have ever been to. We were asked to close out the night for a School of Rock (regional lesson studio) show. The show was a tribute to AC/DC and classic metal. Kids were between the ages of 10 and 16 for the most part. Let me tell you, seeing these kids rock out was really ****ing cool. I wish I had an opportunity like what they have when I was younger. The playing ranged from atrocious guitar solos and a drummer that would stop playing everytime he made a mistake to kids that will one day rock many stages, but the most important aspect was that they were all having a blast. One kid(actually one of the better performers) opened the night out playing lead and singing "For Whom the Bell Tolls". He was absolutely the most energetic kid and actually dropped to his knees to take the solo in FWTBT. It was incredible.
When we took the stage a lot of parents were gone and a good chunk of kids were gone. After we played our first song and gave the parents a dose of volume (all the kids were using small combos) there were no parents in the venue and only the most satan dedicated kids were left. It was amusing.

Id rather sit on a bunch of unused wax that I can mold, than a bunch of already moled wax that isnt selling quick enough...
And if I could set the final price point low enough, Id wouldnt care about sub par quality from a buyer standpoint. Like a $10 2LP of quality riffs, Im not gonna care if its not audiophile quality.

Thanks for bringing up Pirate Press, leads to more discussion about formats with the guys.
There is no endless funds available, it all has to be spoon fed into personal budgets. That leads to pressure.
Next phase of us getting our stuff recorded mastered and pressed is going to be an interesting test for this band.
