Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

That's rough man. When you have a killer band and stuff just stops working or people get tired of each other or whatever drama.

My drummer told me that this is the best band he's ever been in. I agreed, same for me. It would be a hard void to fill with any other group of dudes. Our guitar player has been keeping us floating. When **** went bad, he's stepped up every single time. He bought the van, he got two more bands and a bigger room, he is the one kicking in the most for the vinyl, etc. plus he's an all around great guy. He would be irreplaceable at this point.
. He just started teaching guitar at the time too so had 2 jobs and started getting cranky at jams since he was working long hours. He just quit/got fired from his day job working at a local guita shop. I would like to think he might bring up jamming agin but it's unlikly since his teaching is in The evening.

34, not feeling old. I have a good job, a nice place to live, a wonderful wife and no kids. Not much to complain about.

Forgot to mention that I ran into an acquaintance over the weekend. He's a bass player and into the whole S/D scene. He told me that after I left the previous band he tried to step in and play bass. I didn't work out, he told me the following:

"I don't know what happened between you guys (meaning me and the guitar player), but I can understand why you're not in the band anymore. Those two practices were some of the strangest, most awkward and uncomfortable musical experiences of my life. There's no way I could have been in that band for any length of time, I just couldn't cope with the weirdness."

That gave me a laugh and made me feel better - sort of validated what I was thinking and feeling about the whole situation. Not that I needed that validation, but it was nice to hear.

I'm 35 and while I don't feel old I certainly am more aware of my mortality. It just seems more real as you see parents and friend's parents pass away and you kind of know you are the next geneation to go....doom on.

Heavy poopie, makes me glad I'm immortal.

Started watching Vietnam in HD last night, much more real in 1080p. Weirdest part is the coverage back then seemed better. I was 11 in 2001, so I grew up to the war in Iraq, and it seems largely out of sight and mind that whole time. To me the whole 10+ years went 9/11...bin laden died... Leave.. Back again.

Re: oldness

Graham? I can just imagine his wierdness clash with Jons in a super hawkward way, that I would probably pay to see. That being said, I do dig what hes doing with Emerald Douglas, seems like hes getting exactly what he wants no questions asked.

just a few of the records I picked up this weekend.

20150119_090839_zpsvzvocxz_edit_1421677749398_zpsoc3pvvou.jpg

two Deltron albums, Thelonious Monk's Underground and the first Bitchwax.

Deltron 3030 is the ****.

I am 26, 27 in June. I feel slightly older in that I feel my body more and more. That may be a result of the physicality of my job, but I am more afraid of getting hurt and thus avoid reckless behavior for the most part. I am in a 100% better spot than I was even one year ago. Hopefully the ride to 30 will be smooth and without arrest or children.

I'm thinking a double bass guitar Doom band in the making...

My girlfriend wants us to have a child and I keep thinking I am 42. The poor kid will get out of diapers and then have to change mine.
Once a man, twice a child.

Just tell her you need more practice on "making of"....

The thing is, after thirty your old man strength starts building. Sure you move a little slower, but you get too stubborn to quit.

I can only hope to one day be the grumpy old Michigan Pollock that Eastwood was in Gran Torino...

Haha, yup.

Haven't heard any of the new stuff - not really interested. That was the second project he wanted to do with the same band members. Whenever Andrew or I had ideas that "didn't fit his vision" he'd suggest that we start a second band that would be slightly different, where there could be more groovy/stoney stuff and the two bands could run parallel and both be active at the same time. To me, that was one of the dumbest things I'd ever heard. It just didn't make sense on so many levels.

Now that the doom band is done, sure it makes sense for him to do a 2-piece. Especially for someone that doesn't want to compromise or collaborate with other musicians.
