My Spector is active/passive (EMG HZ, old Hazlab copy active preamp) and it definitely takes to effects nicely. My Warwick (active/active MEC) and crappy Samick (with upgraded active/active EMG) do the same.

I don't have much of a preference in the active vs passive debate. Currently all my basses are passive, but that is just how it worked out. My ATK700 was my main gigging bass for several years and it was an active.

Gonna try to go haggle for that Guild today. Hoping the Pittsburgh Marathon traffic crap is over.

I was leaning towards Fat Beams or D'addario Half Rounds. I used to play DR Sunbeams all the time. Talked to the bass player from Ozenza and she swears by Fat Beams. Prolly give those a shot.

Hey, you've got a Stingray Classic also right? With the string through bridge, will normal scale strings be kosher?

Not a trick, it's in the JDI manual, basically you connect the JDI to your speaker out on your amp. That way the PA gets the sound of your bass, effects, preamp and poweramp. It's the only way I ever use my JDI live.

^^^^^^ This and the show was ok. I hate not being able to play loud and use a DI, Thats just me. Also a little DI 101, I sound checked my gear and got some of the bugs worked out on my board then hooked up my DI for FOH. In order to use the JDI you need speaker cable to do the "Speaker out" feature. After i hooked up the DI their was this horrible buzz. Then i remembered when you set a DI on top of your amp it creates some kind of interference that make your amp hum. I set the DI on the back of the amp on the "Towel bar" on my 810 it went away slightly but i could still hear it. So note to DI users, don't put your DI on top of you amp rigs. Put it on the floor.

Typically any string through bass will need "Long" scale strings.
