Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part Ten - What is this thread about again?

Just got done with a great jam session. New guitarist I got in contact with over CL and my buddy who is a great drummer, but hasn't drummed in a band in a few years. We jammed out some good riffs, ran through it a bunch and just let the creative juice flow. Worked its way into a pretty cool song and we all had a good time. We also threw around a few other riff ideas that were promising. So I guess we're planning on getting together next week and see how it works out, could turn into a new band with some promise.

I ended up playing my Precision, into my SVT CL/810 with my RAT and it sounded great. I also went straight into the amp here and there, but I had the pregain cranked up higher than I usually do. The guitarist was using a Telecaster into an Orange dual Terror with a NYC Muff and a RAT II. Everything sounded good, fit really well, there was a good overall sound. It was very much along the lines of a Sabbath/Sleep type vibe, not super high gain or down tuned, but a lot of heaviness in the riffs. The chemistry was great and it was a real fun time, so I'm excited to see where it goes.

So I'm going to try to get another tech to look at the Road star, but if it ends up the pickups are just too funky to get this weird microphonic **** gone I just just replace them. They are humbuckers in large casings, so the first ideas that come to mind are tbird and musicman. They are pretty expensive but double dark stars would be pretty crazy too...

Hey Laz,unless you can find some random dude with 2 Dark Stars for sale you mite be out of luck. The guy that hand makes the DS pickups went MIA a while back.I think he`s the sole member of the company too. So no new orders are being filled. bunk.

There was one of those on my craigslist for $700. The local music shop went out of business and there have been some "interesting" items as of late. Too bad I'm broke right now.

And for real, let's talk about something that's not a bass guitar until my carvin comes. This custom build wait business is killing me.

So April was a pretty good month for new music, eh? Any other hip hoppers catch the newest Death Grips? It sounds like anarchy and a turntable.

Nice. I want to get one of those handheld recorders so if/when I do meet some people, I can keep track of what all happens.

**and if you are planning on downtuning, do it now before ya'll start writing too much.

It's here and it sounds rad!

Big gooey old skool ampeg sweetness. I'll definitely record some clips for you guys but I think this will make for an awesome studio amp. At full power it's quite loud and I imagine could easily be used in a rock/blues setting. The half power is still loud as well but breakup starts earlier (obviously) however with the VVR circuit i can fine tune how and when it distorts. The EQ is a subtle but musical, it may need some tweaking, I think the Q is too wide for each band but that's me being a picky bastard. The workmanship and finish is top notch, it sure looks sexy.
