Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part Ten - What is this thread about again?

With all this talk of composite 2x15's running around TB lately, I'm thinking of building a lightweight composite clone of my Sunn Beta 205. Make it a father, "sunn" summer project...pun intended.

OR a composite clone of a Sunn 415m, since finding a real one may prove difficult. But I have to find the specs of one. Can one even say lightweight and 4 15's in the same sentence?

Nice. I want to get one of those handheld recorders so if/when I do meet some people, I can keep track of what all happens.

**and if you are planning on downtuning, do it now before ya'll start writing too much.

Yeah, I remember all the riffs, but I think I might pick up a Zoom or something to record jams. I have a good recording setup, but it requires moving rack gear from my desk into a rolling rack and bringing my iMac, which would be a pain just for practices.

We might downtune, not sure yet. We'll see how it goes.

So after feeling GAS free with my cabs, amps, and bass that's coming soon, I've started trying to think about things in my rig that I can upgrade. All the talk about cables made me realize I have 2 good cables and 4 kinda cheapy ones. I also have that Begringer DI, that sounds good, but plastic construction has me worried. What do you guys think. If a cable isn't broke, should you be worried about having a high end cable? Same with DI. It works, do I really need to replace it? Or is it one of those proplayer things where you only replace it as you get more serious? Maybe it seems like a dumb thing to worry about, but the last thing I want is crap tone because I kept a faulty pedal.

I would stay away from Monster cables. I've always had bad luck with them. Yes you can just go trade them in for an exchange but it still sucks. I use Mogami now and haven't had one fail in 6 years. Also like mc muench said a cable is just a cable. I always get a kick out of the "high end" power cables they sell. Yeah let me buy this $90 power cable to plug into a regular output ran with typical romex wire. It makes no difference at all no matter how much rubber they put around it. Use it until it breaks. The same goes for tubes, strings, cabs, etc.

Sure you can. Anything under 200 lbs. is lightweight for a 4x15.:D
