Sounds like they could potentially take the money back but Wade doesn't have a leg to stand on IMO.


So I'm about to drop some sacrilegious shenanigans on you folks. Picked up my SVT-7 Pro from the post office today. God. Damn. I am in love with this amp. I am obviously in a honey moon phase, and this will probably upset some of you, but I like it BETTER than my VR. Yes I said it. I like this 15 lbs Ampeg better than my 300W tube behemoth. There's just something to the sonic quality of this amp. It has more punch, while still being thick and girthy. It seems louder than the SVT and cuts through the mix better. However this is of course MY opinion with MY band and MY gear. I won't give a blind statement like the 7 Pro is better than the VR, but I will boldly say that I like it far better with my gear and my sound.

I first tested it out with my '75 P-bass into one of my BassBombs (can't run 2 as the amp is a minimum 4 ohm load) to compare it to the VR. For band practice I ran the Guild (also my first time playing this with a big rig) into the 7 Pro into my guitarist's Berg NV610. HOLY HELL. Tone heaven. The Guild sounds incredible (it was strung with Chromes when I bought it) and is one of the easiest playing basses I've ever picked up. It does have a bit of neck dive, and wants to sit parallel to the floor if I let it, but it is easy to anchor my forearm along the top and keep it balanced. Plus I use a neoprene strap so that may go away with a different one.

We did a little more recording tonight. I'll upload the clips when I get them so you guys can compare to my previous tracks. It won't be a great A/B comparison but will at least demonstrate the tone I was getting tonight.

I'll hold onto the VR for awhile, especially until after I get my Dually so I can compare them a bit better, but I think I have a new main amp. And main bass lol.

Sorry a little late. Been eyeing this thread for a while. Just wanted to get in and say I just recently got into red fang. I can't stop listening to any of it. Good ****.

We almost got a chance to play with them. I want to say they were coming around the Houston area not too too long ago but they ended up skipping out. That would have been a great time. Oh well.

By the way guys. Check out the band and tell me what you think. Albums all recorded and produced ourselves.

I know how you feel Laz, I dont own a SVT but payed through enough of them, I'm pretty happy with my little B2R, crank the gain for a bit of grit and let the fuzz pedals do the screaming. And my Sunn 2x15 cant take to much power, 300 tube watts may be a bit much. I'm sure I'd be quite happy with a SVT though :bassist:

A couple weeks ago the back panel on my amp got smashed to pieces.The old back panel was essentially one wooden bar running across the back of the amp.The band and a couple of friends were unloading our gear at a gig,and someone thought this measly bar was a handle.Needless to say,it snapped under the weight,and 200 watts of tube amp hit the deck.So me and dad have made a replacement,with a modified design.Much more protection now!

Yeah... I went to GC the other day and fiddled around, plugging a SVT7PRO into an 810E (my rig that will come if the tax man ever comes through), and just sat in the back room getting all giddy.

I've been thinking the same thing. Interesting cab builds and retro electronics seems like a cool possible side business. As long as you don't over-extend yourself and end up screwing your customers, as it seems 3 in 4 small shops end up doing, if talkbass drama is any indication.

Keep in mind that $96k in sales will have to cover materials and other types of overhead. He may have taken home a 1/4 of that. Which is a nice chunk of change but it's not something easy to do as a side business.

You can't be afraid to tell customers, no. And I don't mean after you take money either. If a customer asks an unreasonable request, you can't be scared to walk away. It's better to do that than to try and deliver something that you know will not make the customer happy and potentially ruin your name. Thats where a lot of small time guys ruin themselves. They take on too many things that aren't a part of their "menu". Custom work dictates longer wait times on everyone's stuff. The key would be finding the balance between custom stuff and the regular offerings to keep money coming and product going.
