The Sansamp/M80/Behringer is a bassist's tool kit. It's a distortion, a preamp, and a DI box.

What are YOU using it for?

Of those, preamp and DI.


Would a pic of the settings help you?

I run the preamp stuff pretty flat. Boost the lows. If I were to think of one word to describe it, it gives my rig "Balls". Big ones too. If my rig was the declaration of independence, the Behringer would be John Hancock. Don't get me wrong, my 15's sound huge without it. But the behringer grabs you by the short hairs if that makes sense. I use it to boost signal, not so much for the built in dirt. The overdrive on the DI kinda stinks when you push it beyond tube breakup territory.

And it's true, it is not broken. It has been a great little unit for the last two years. The construction is what I'm concerned with.

Eden's WTDI is another option. My girlfriend uses one, it sounds great (if you like Eden... which I do).

I realize this is a dumb question, but is it SUPER Eden-y?

It sounds like an Eden, if that's what you're asking. It has a high-mid bump (as opposed to Ampeg's low-mid bump) that many call "hi-fi" sounding, though the EQ is surprisingly powerful. The compressor is very good for what it is, and it has Eden's "enhance" control that some love and some hate.

If I didn't already have a Sansamp (and love it) I'd probably get this.

Been there, except he was the most drunk. He flung a whole pint of beer in my head for not getting in a mosh pit after we played... I dodged it and he stormed home (20 + blocks in the middle of the night)

I guess I should be more clear. What Amp are you using? The DI is generally not needed in most setups. If you could live without the DI portion it opens up a whole world of fun pedals.

Not sure how I feel about this. Wonder who is doing the remastering. Haven't liked the way a lot of the HoF masterings have sounded.

I specifically use the DI after my effects chain incase I need to run into the board or into a recording console. I have only ever used it 3 times in total. But, it's nice knowing I have it if I should ever need it.

I'm using a pre/power combo with no DI connection currently.

This is something I spend a lot of time worrying about. I get a sound I like and then I fear that the sound guy will just run a DI and I'll lose the positive effects of the speaker cabs.

You seem to have your Preamp/DI setup with some high pass to tame your fuzz pedals. This is good but one thing you may want to try is to leave the DI on you board in parallel with your amp for when you absolutely must use the house PA or recording console without a mic on your cab. So you won’t have to worry too much about having it in your normal live mix. It’s just there for ******* sound guy emergencies.

So, I would try running your pedals into the DI then take the parallel out and run that to your amp. If you need to use the EQ on the DI to get a sound you like with your amp then just remember that the signal coming out of the DI will have more highs than the signal coming out of your amp (due to the accumulative nature of filters in your amp and cab) which is the bane of all fuzz user’s existences.

Why is the obvious question?
I think the HOF mixing and mastering help set them apart.
imo Snakes sounded way to clean to me for a hof release

Got drunk and fought my friend once, hes a 4th degree black belt...I'm still alive and we're still friends.


First practice at the new place was last night, felt weird, we're in a corner of a shop so its a lot more open than the basement, sounds great though. The guys who own the shop really digged us, it was also the first time we ever played in front of other people. It will take a little while to get used to but, we found a home.

I have no need to buy a remixed/remastered copy of TAOSD, it's got a great mix. Billy Anderson knew what he was doing. If anything needs a remix it's Surrounded By Thieves, IMO.
