In fact, the song "Tab" is a 20 minute plus jam of ambient madness. They started out like a mix between Hawkwind, Blue Cheer, and almost a little punk. My guess was this was back when all they did was smoke weed and trip. I don't know if it was getting into hard drugs that did it, but they decided to turn into a straight forward, hard rock band Powertrip and onwards.
The Sword is my favorite band right now. Not to sound like a broken record, but...I've pretty much been listening to them for a month straight now...sooooooooooo good! Get into them.
I didn't end up going to the show. My friend saw them at CBGB's and said they sounded perfect though. However, despite The Sword's awesomeness, He said Torche stole the show!

Would you guys consider Acid Bath stoner rock? They're one of my favorite bands. Dax's other band Deadboy and the Elephant Man is pretty good too.
Another band I've been listening to lately not sure if it would qualify as stoner rock or alternative is Failure.

Acid Bath is an excellent band. I don't consider them stoner but I love'm anyway. There's another band he used to sing in called Agents of Oblivion. Highly recommend if you like his vocal timbre.
I love Dax's voice. When we do acoustic shows Dead Girl is always on the set list. The one song I actually sing. I had to bust out the acoustic to play it after I posted.

Dead Girl is also on the Agents of Oblivion album... slightly different song with the same lyrics. Goose bumps, my friend, goose bumps when I'm writing this.
I think you're probably the fifth person that I've talked to that actually knew who Acid Bath was. So major props there.

Acid Bath is great.
I think Failure counts as stoner too even though it doesnt sound that much like most other stuff. Its slow-mid tempo stuff, really fuzzed out, thick, and trippy/dreamy feeling.
I love that band. I got a CD of theirs from some old bandmates. Where can I go for more?

Failure only recorded two cd's that I know of Fantastic planet and Magnified. I have fantastic planet if you cannot find it I can rip it for you. A Perfect Circle covered the song "The Nurse Who Loved Me".

I didn't start listening to them until about 98 which was a couple years after their break up so it might of been different then but in '94 when When the kite string pops was released I was in 7th-8th grade so didn't have the best exposure at that age either...
I love Acid Bath! Amazing band. There's been some talk of them several pages back in this thread. I agree, generally the only people I talk to that are hip to them are hip to a lot of good obscure music. They're one of those bands thats so good, I'm always surprised not too many people know about them.
I recently got an Acid Bath DVD with a whole bunch of cool live footage of them. Definitely worth checking out.

That's allmusic.com's loose definition of stoner rock.
My thoughts on Acid Bath... there isn't enough going on musically going on for me. Dax has great voice, and I love him in the Deadboy and the Elephantmen setting, "Song with no Name" is a song with so much power behind it without being too huge, it's intense stuff.
