Dude. Your uncle writes some of the catchiest, heaviest, AWESOMENEST riffs out there. I always figured the beard gave him mystical powers, can you confirm or deny that?
I got a Meteor City 3-disc compilation last week, going to spin it now and see wha happa with it.
Heroin and Hippie Killer (by Bongripper, duh!) arrived yesturday. I've only been able to listen to most of Hippie so far, but damn! Some cool stuff fo' sho'! Having already listened to Hate Ashbury about 666 times I can definatly say that 'Ripper brings it

Bongripper is great stuff. While we're throwing in doom bands...
Check out Abandon. Absolutely crushing stuff. The songs "Pitch Black Hole" and "It's All Gone" are their newest.

The new mammatus record is one of the best i've listened to this year. LISTEN IT!!! Also Acid King, Big Business, Atomic Bitchwax and Eternal Elysium!!!

Finally got some Weedeater, 16 tons: Great album, it really is so bass driven, such a heavy sound. The vocals are a bit of an acquired taste, but I've been listening to a bit of Black Metal these days, so I can dig it. Ultra heavy grooves, some head nodding music for sure.
i love stoner, so do all of my bandmates!

The Sword is probably one of the bigger bands in this genre right now. Their first album is particularly good. Another good band is Saviors. From Europe, a band called Sahg isn't bad at all.
There's also Sleep, the precursor band to High on Fire. And of course I'm agreed with all who mentioned Kyuss. Their album Blues for the Red Sun is a truly a classic, IMO.
Electric Wizard is truly a stoner band. They literally sound like a bong-hit. And cheers to whoever mentioned Cathedral. You get coolness points for that. There's also Orange Goblin.
They're not a stoner metal band, but check out Opeth's "Damnation." It's a very mellow album, with a spooky vibe. That album actually turned on some stoner metal types I know to Opeth, and they're big fans now.
One last mention is a guy who calls himself Mountain Mirrors, from Mass. It's mostly acoustic, but it has a cool, occult vibe and some nice grooves in there. He's pretty unkown, but I think he's talented.
The cool thing about exploring genres is the stuff you discover along the way.
