Stoner Metal/ Stoner rock

i'm always thought that king of the road was their best cd, but thats debateable depending on which era of fu manchu if you will. like you said before you started with california crossing and start the machine, which are pretty solid albums, especially considering they've been around for about 15 years, they certainly arent albums to make a final judgement on, the same way someone wouldnt judge the rolling stones by the voodoo lounge album

king of the road was the album that got me into them, the action is go is really great too. in search of is a bit earlier before eddie glass and ruben romano split to form nebula. all 3 of those albums are great works of music

I bought Atomic Ritual and I thought it was ninety percent fecal. Totally faux 70's sound; in a bad way. I only really dug the last track.

I will give it to whoever wants it.

Well here are my favorites
Clutch...by a long shot, noone can even get close to rocking as hard as clutch

Fu Manchu, Kyuss, Dozer, Sixty Watt Shaman, Spirit Caravan and of course the mighty Sleep...one band people tend to forget about is Orange Goblin check them out.

While we are on the topic, what do you guys consider the heaviest songs you have ever heard?

my top 5 are

1. The Package by Clutch
2. Jerusalem/Dopesmoker by Sleep
3. Rings of Saturn by Dozer (check out the live video on dozermusic.com)
4. Saturn III bt Fu Manchu
5. Dragonfly by Clutch

Heaviest that I still find listenable would be:

Suicide Note Pt 2 - Pantera
Bleak - Opeth
Island - Mastodon
Silenced - Mudvayne
Channeling Elements - Candiria (the thinking mans metal)

None are "stoner" rock, in the traditional sense though.

One of the original stoner bands , Blue Cheer is recording for a new album now .

Also , for those interested in more of the original stoner bands, check out The Seeds, they kick alot of ass.

Also, a question about a particular band, Nebula. I had heard that they were spacey, but I listened to some samples of two of their albums, im not sure which but one had a drumset in the middle of a desert and the other was silver and blue, None of this stuff sounded spacey, it sounded like Grand Funk Railroad type stuff.

I dont know much about Nebula other than the fact that I like them a lot.

I've been listening to K666 (the online radio station linked on stonerrock.com) and Ive noticed that a few of the cooler songs Ive heard were from Nebula.

Word is that Torche (ex members of Floor) have finished their album. Ill be at their upcomming show to pick it up. Ill let you guys know if its as good as I expect it to be.

A few bands i'm into that fall under the wide genre of stoner/doom:Mastodon, High on Fire, Pentagram, Orange Goblin, Entombed, Iron Monkey, Neurosis, Nebula, Sleep, Pelican, Saint Vitus, Isis, Eyehategod, The Obsessed, Noosebomb, Sourvein, Cursed, Dozer, the Hidden Hand, Comets on Fire, Mouth of the Architect, and many more. Theres so many great "stoner" bands out there.
