Absolutely the best version of the Star Spangled Banner I have ever heard. Period.

She set the bar. This was mentioned on television recently that all vocal versions will be judged by her version for a VERY long time. Powerful.

I like melody, I like harmony, I like feeling, I like soul but I am COMPLETELY turned off by vocal gymnastics, not impressed at all, never was never will be. In my opinion the Star Spangled Banner is a straight forward melody, not a pack of braying coyotes.

I loved her music in the 80s and early 90s. I thought it was all synth, but if Nathan East did it then even better. Later on not so much. Her version of I Will Always Love You grated on my nerves more than any other song, even though I realize the amazing vocal talent that went into it. The kicker for me is her lifestyle choices, IMO I have no sympathy for drug addicts either, when they're rich and famous and have practically unlimited access to get themselves straight.

Her music reminds me of my childhood in a positive way, so I can't say I'm indifferent to it. At the same time, it's not music I go out of my way to listen to. I recognize her talent and impact and was sad to hear of her passing. I think you're missing an option.

Her singing in the "Preacher's Wife" was outrageous, and I think the vocal gymnastics totally fit. How she could sing like that and smoke 3 packs a day, I don't know.

Whitney was a bright light and an amazing talent when she first started out. Such a tragic fall and end though. I prefer to remember the young Whitney. Her voice was one in a million. Maybe one in a billion. I really dug her sound for that kind of pop music.

I think her voice was more like one in 500 million, which is still pretty good. Damn could she sing. Right now I can't think of those other 14 or 15 people that could sing at or above her level (when she was at her best) but I know they are out there. I voted that I love her because it was closest to how I feel when I hear her top songs. Some of those songs, I can just imagine them up. That's a really strong impression.

If folks are going to condemn her entire catalog of music, because of her drug abuse, they might as well destroy a lot of the music they already own. It is a very common thing in the music industry, is it not?
