Suck on this Mike Gordon

Senseless trolling on my part, but I'm always amazed at how vanilla Mike Gordon's tone is when you see the complexity of the rig(s) he uses. You see that filing cabinet full of rack-mounted gear, and the boutiquey cabs, and then you hear what is basically a very dry, bland flatwound + pick tone, with the occasional envelope filter or other effect to quirk it up. More power to him for having such self control when you have a rig at your disposal that would allow you to trample all over your bandmates every which way.

No, you're right, actually, I kinda got worried about that. I do plan to take some pics of the XLC rig we are going to track up and play my bass through, just for grins. I can't believe I didn't think to get pics of me playing my Stingray through the other rig. Maybe it wasn't a bad thing, though...

When I informed the other members (13-piece Blues Boys-style band) that I wanted to break out the SVT 810 for this gig, just for grins, they were fairly worried that I was gonna blow the place away (and it could!). I sent everyone a pic of the volume control, LOL. What's funnier is that I will use my IEMs on that show. I'd play it without an amp, but the band hates that, so here ya go...

I don't think it works like that. From what I gather from the thread title, a big stack of cabs like the one OP posted is called a "Mike Gordon". OP is in fact inviting us to suck on the amps ourselves.

It works because the sub's and the long stack of 10's don't share any frequencies. Mixing cabs gets dicey when speakers of different sizes/sonic profiles share the same frequencies.

I am not however, the police. I believe that your sound is whatever floats your boat but I also know a little about sound and how it works in a room so I understand that just because you explain to someone what a best practice is, that you aren't necessarily being an audio fascist.

Exactly. Its crossed over with multiple profiles and always aligned so yes it is all good in the hood with the drivers playing nice with each other creating some awesome results.
