I bought a Suhr J from Wildwood Guitars not too long ago. I don’t have pics because it’s at my local tech getting the nitro sanded off the neck and a few coats of tung oil applied. It’s basic rosewood/alder in a nitro sunburst finish. Sounds amazing and plays amazing. Suhr is the best. No one comes close IMO. I’ve had a few of their guitars and this is my second Suhr bass and they’re just the most consistently great instruments I’ve come across. To get similar quality in the bass world, you’d have to go Sadowsky at nearly twice the price. I wish they’d focus more on their basses but there’s probably not a ton of incentive there when they sell as many guitars as they do. Customer service is next level as well.
Absolutely top of the line basses. My Classic J is an unbelievable axe.
Jeff I have the same problem. It’s really hard to get it into the right spot to adjust the truss rod. The neck was moving on me a good bit here a few weeks ago when our weather started changing. I got her dialed in now and it’s killer.
I finally relented and just removed the neck to adjust. Better than making a gouging mess from the top. Plays awesome again - and with those TI flats!
How do you like the TI’s on Suhr Jeff? I tried out a set of LaBellas 760FL flats on mine. I love them on my P basses but wanted to try the on the Suhr. The jury’s still out.
They are still in the "breaking in" period, but I like where they are headed. Great feel and really responsive to the most subtle adjustment in technique.
Thought about that myself since I have gotten used to the stacked knob configuration on my old trusted but heavy Fender '62 JB.

For me, I wanted to broaden the spread between my Suhr J and my Sadowsky NYC so they weren't too redundant. The Sad is already act/pas with huge headroom and a very live, wide open sound. So with the Suhr, I added Brantley pups for thick, low end punch, kept the pre passive but added linear pots and slapped TI flats on it. Boom. Instant groove machine, far from the textures I can cull from the Sadowsky.
I loved my black Suhr so much I got a Sunburst one to put flats on. Then I contemplated trading the Sunburst until I played my Black Suhr on my NYE gig last night. It sounded so damn good I immediately pulled down my add in the classifieds. Glad o came to my senses lol. Can’t have too much of a good thing.
I solved that by buying a hex key and bend the straight end (on a vice) to just the right length. HOWEVER, the size of the wrench puzzles me: On the Suhr website they sell their Truss Rod Wrench in size 1/8". This does not work with my bass neck. I need 5mm. What gives? Or does the 1/8" only apply to Suhr guitars?

I’ve got this great 2013 Classic J with active three band (I wish John made 5 strings like this). I love this bass much, the playability is great and the soind is unique, but there is one thing: it is picking up noise from led dimmers and adapters etc. Oddly enough it acts exactly the same as my also great Fender Victor Bailey 5 string I do not experience this noise with my Sadowsky’s and F bass etc. Eventhough these have single coils whereas the Suhr has humphry’s. I read about poor shielding of the Fender but I don’t think that is the case with the Suhr. Anyone having similar experiences and solutions? P.s. I found a set of Suhr single coils in a German shop online and will replace the humphry’s: I do like their sound but I always prefer true single coils somehow.

In my band's practice space we've had issues with LED lights and actual (guitar) humbuckers. In our case it's not the pickups (can turn the volume down to zero and it still hums), and if I remember correctly it's actually the cable that's picking up all the noise.
We've tried swapping a few cables without really improving it. All that seems to work is unplugging the LED lights.

Well in my case it's definitely the bass picking up something.. when I turn down the volume on the bass there is no noise. The Suhr and the Fender Victor Bailey act about the same, which makes me wonder, since they are both designed by John Suhr. With other basses I don't have this problem...
