Summer Build Off 2022 - Fun Time Free For All

Exactly! For me it's going to be four more busy days, but I think I'll manage to get everything done.

Question: Is it allowed to post further stuff like sound samples to the build threat after the deadline, or rather not? I've seen it both ways in previous buildoffs, so...

I think it’s considered bad form to add media content to build threads once voting has started. That would include additional photos and sound clips. @Beej can comment, but I think this has been mentioned in past build offs.

Gary has a good point. During the voting period, your build thread should remain relatively static. After voting is over, though, absolutely update it! I still update some of mine from prior years when I make a change….

Oh yeah, I forgot about the voting part.
I don't remember if it was cool to add a sound clip with the final pics for voting (was it?)
But I agree that once voting starts, you shouldn't add or change anything until voting is done.
I'm a fan of sound clips. I'm excitable.

As far as I remember, yes that's cool. I think I've seen it happen a few times. I always thought it makes sense to not only show everyone what your new instrument looks like, but also how it sounds. A natural extension of the photo series.

Thank you guys for your comments. In terms of fairness it absolutely makes sense to keep things where they are from the deadline until voting is over. I will try to do a little recording before the DL, but if I'm running out of time, then so be it.

Maybe @Beej can give an official statement on this.

As to that, how much time is there between the deadline and the start of voting? Because in that short interval we all have to compose and submit our official entries.

I'd have liked to be able to do this at leisure. Will it now be a hasty thing?

Information please, @Beej

Voting usually begins immediately following the deadline, and lasts a few weeks.

People are always going on about how “language is fluid”, so in this case I can claim that “a few” includes “one”….

Well, depending on how fast one is or what tools one has at disposal, seven day could equate seven instruments built.

And luckily language is so fluid as to accommodate that came. Just like ghoti is a possible way to spell fish phonetically

I’ll have what you’re having!
