I can’t really picture what you’re describing, but could you just make it a set-neck? Maybe a “set-thru” (a set-neck with a really long tenon)?

I looked up local community workshops and was surprised that there were several in the area. And they are all (what I would consider) really expensive. One is $15 an hour, max 10 hours per month. A higher use plan is more costly.
Or am I just being a cheapskate?

Sounds reasonable to me. Most of the time you'll spend on woodworking will be the work with hand tools that you can do at home. Assuming you only use the shop for the table saw, band saw, planer, etc. you might only need it for a couple hours for the whole project as long as you're making a Fender-ish instrument and plan out what you've got to do before you head in.

Although that looks sick, a seam in my design would look like faecius maximus.

The photo I was trying to find (before giving up and using that one) was a seam that curved to a point an inch or so up the center of the neck. It worked really well with the combination of wood and red body paint. Admittedly hard to talk through without pics. But it looked like it should have been exactly like it was rather than covering up an error.

After several measurements and some thinkin', I think I will continue on the bolt-on path for now.

Yeah, I agree, I don't think $15hr is bad at all. In the Post-COVID world, literally everything costs WAY more than it used to. If I could find a maker space that was $15hr I'd be fairly happy about it.

Instead, I drive an hour and a half, set up my RV for a 3-day weekend and use my boss's shop. I'm lucky in that sense, but the waiting for a 3-day weekend and the hour and a half drive each way aren't a great solution.

Oh, I'm gonna reiterate this website that Cam over at Blacktail Studio created, called "MakerBook". If you only need a specific "tool", such as a table saw, rather than paying for a maker space, check out the site and see if there's someone nearby (I have no clue where you are located) that you could just rent that 1 tool from for a while -

Anybody know of a bridge similar to the Hipshot D Style that is not quite so precious? Looking for the bridge only, not the tail piece.

$130 is a chunk of change for a bridge...

How similar do you want? Bass Tune-O-Matic bridges are available all day on eBay for $20 or so. But the Hipshot will have a lower overall height, and more adjustability.

The Sung-Il BB100 is pretty good IMHO. Downsides are that it doesn't have a ton of travel, is limited to 18mm spacing and 4 string only.

I've seen the TOM style, they are kinda "meh". I like the low profile and the adjustability of the Hipshot.

Doesn't necessarily need to LOOK the same.

It's from Solo Music Gear. For the price of the template set, maybe just buy the set?

Last time I saw it was on Amazon, either Musiclily, Kaish or J.D.Moon, but can't recall. I just searched and haven't seen it. A local guy to me used to bring in their stuff but he's been focusing on Gotoh and Hipshot lately. I know Allparts has had lots of Sung-Il stuff on their site, and currently do right now, but not the BB100. If I come across it, I'll pass it along.
