I bought an early WM12 with a blown speaker and got to work fixing it. Unfortunately the front baffle had split, so I had to cut it out with a jig saw and glue in a new baffle; it looks and works like new. For a speaker I chose the long-Xmax Eminence Deltalite that Dave at Avatar Speakers sells for around $90. I stripped the insulation from the top and one side of the cabinet to let a few more mids come through. (I was disappointed to see so much particle board used in the cabinet--only the sides are plywood--which is why the combo is around 40 pounds.) Last, I deepened the port tuning with a flared plastic bell (it looks like a trombone bell) that I happened to have laying around. I glued it over the inside lip of the existing, very short port tube. There wasn't a lot of room to lengthen the port because it aims straight at the back of the woofer, but the flare worked. Buttoned it all up and the sound is perfect. It's the best sounding speaker I have. I'd describe it as neutral, warm and deep, with just the right touch of crispness and growl. I can EQ it to sound like anything I want it to. With the neo speaker it weighs a few pounds less than stock. It's my grab and go amp for rehearsals and low-volume jazz gigs.
