If she wasn't singing off key (sometimes easily corrected by vocal lessons to support the note...unless singing sharp and that's a bit more serious),
anyway, if she wasn't singing off key I wouldn't have commented, unless to say " nice voice".
Yeah, a bit flat in spots, but I don't hear her going horribly off key. I like it, but I like everything she does, so I guess my ears are a bit clouded.

i LOVE Tal, but i believe she would tell you the truth about her vocals.
I'm not sure. She may be surrounded by "YES" people who tell her how great her singing sounds and saying she sucks behind her back. You've gotta be your own worst critic.
I believe you woodshed privately until you've got stuff worked out before taking to the public, especially in a high profile jazz environment where you get critiqued on stuff that the common ear doesn't catch.
I know Herbie's a great guy and motivator, but I'm baffled why she'd get thrown to the wolves before she's vocally ready ( just singing on key). That can kill a person's confidence, however comments coming from all he supporters, she's obviously got a lot of "yes" people around.

Well on thing is certain: Both are measured more by appearance than musical talent.

Beautiful. She reminded me of Phoebe Snow. I loved the tone of the frettless too.
When I saw the title " Times they are a Changin", I was expecting to hear more off pitch vocals! It would almost need to be off key to sound right...
just kidding. I thought a couple of Herbie's fills were a little out there (uhoh, someone shut me up) but overall really nice.

Funny you should mention that about Herbie. On his "Possibilities" CD I hear a bit of stuff from Herbie that just doesn't seem to fit in with the tune or is a little out there.

It definitely peaked many moons ago. Rock, too. But I'll admit it, I like smooth jazz. But there's still great artists coming out all the time, in both genres, just much fewer and far between it seems these days. Where's the next great wave of originality gonna come from? The culture seems to have grown complacent to a somewhat large extent. Who knows, maybe from bassists who sing off key?
