Talkbass vs the Real World

i can do one better.

i started the "Carrots" thing. when paul the site owner first turned on the ability to place a poll on tb, folks were posting all kinds of idiotic ridiculous polls, and it was obnoxious. in an effort to discourage this, without outright impeding it in any way, i started adding the "carrots" option as a way for the membership-at-large to actively protest the more absurd polls and hopefully send the message that, if you want to be taken seriously, don't be poll-doofus.

this was almost always a moderator edit on my part - if folks started a poll with the carrots option already, i would edit or delete that option and add one of my own.

and so the legend was born. heh.

YOU TOLD!!!!!

I believe you just might vanish in a small puff of blue smoke, now that the secret is out...

speaking of people who talk about things they dont know about or along those lines...
dont you hate it when people say "yeah my main influence is john entwhistle"

it may just be me cos he is the actual guy who laid the foundation for how i play bass now but i just itch to say "ITS ENTWISTLE" haha

Don't forget Bacon!!

I stopped playing for almost 18 years - when I returned and started looking for an Amp, I found Talkbass, it was so cool to find a forum like this, nothing like that existed when I was actively playing in the early 80's. Just cool place for sure with it's own popular culture, language etc....

i went to the hospital last night to get stitches taken out of the bottom of my foot from cutting it open 2 weeks ago, and my friend aaron went with me. we were just talking like we always do, and i brought up how there's an OT thread on here about Song Uno. he got intrigued, so we started playing in the waiting room. pretty soon, there were 5 or 6 people, complete strangers, just saying random song titles to see if anyone could stump everyone else. :D

I knew it was you!:hyper:

Since I've been on TB regularly i'm often surprised when in the real world discussing a different point of view with someone the discussion often devolves into people angrily restating their position over and over until both people are furious and using ALL CAPS TO MAKE SURE THE OTHER PERSON CAN FINALLY UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG, YOU IDIOT.

I'm not sure if it's due to the subject matter in here, but it is a real nice oasis of positive discourse among anonymous people that have actual experience and opinions about things.
