I have the D'Addario's on all of my jazz basses right now. I may put them on a five string that I have as well, but the D'Addario set that I have doesn't come with a 5-string set. Any suggestions on a comparative feel/sound to match the D'Addario's (50-65-85-105)...looking for a .135 low B.

D'Addario Black Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings Long Scale Set - 5-String 50-135 ETB92-5 .050 .065 .085 .105 .135

I'm new to this topic! I have an Epi Jack Casady 20 Anniv. For those who aren't familiar, it's a four string long scale semi hollow body with one pickup. Has a P Bass tone.

I have been experimenting with a set of TI Flats vs a set of Optima Black Label Flats. The TI's almost sound too growly, the Optima's, almost too dark and toneless. I wondered if a set of tapes is what I am after? Don't want to file the nut just yet, are the D'Addario's pretty much where it's at for a standard fit?

I bet they would fit fine. They fit on my 4004L, and its nut hasn't been modified or filed whatsoever. I also bet they would sound really good on it (your bass), too. Not only do they get a good, warm boom, they retain a surprisingly bright snap (for flat tapes) even when they've been on a while. The lower tension makes for an ease of play which I find very enjoyable.

Really want to try the Daddario tapes on my Hofner, i have TI flats at the moment

I don't know if the D'Addario strings will fit into the standard guitar size winding pegs on the Hofner. Maybe consider La Bella Beatles Bass Nylons for the Hofner. They have tapered ends for the winding pegs that will fit on a Hofner.

Ok thanks , i will certainly give the Labellas some consideration, has anyone here tried the Daddario tapes on their Hofner and able to confirm if they will fit?
