I don't know if the D'Addario strings will fit into the standard guitar size winding pegs on the Hofner. Maybe consider La Bella Beatles Bass Nylons for the Hofner. They have tapered ends for the winding pegs that will fit on a Hofner.

Just to further muddy the waters, I tried the La Bella Beatle Bass White Nylons for a month or so last year. They sounded great, but they were simply too light. If you go for La Bellas, it might be worth seeing if the regular gauges fit the tuners. (Don't forget that a violin bass requires medium scale strings.)

The Beatle Bass La Bella Nylons I used on a Hofner were blacks. I had a good result with them.

Stringsdirect appear to have them ... they're tagged BB (beatle bass) not hofner. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Strings Direct and Stringbusters seem to have Beatle bass sets and black nylon sets, but not ones that are both. They are worth bookmarking anyway for their large selection of La Bella products, as is Invalid Link Removed.

GHS black tapewounds. I bought the last pack in the store, as it turns out.

A few years ago it trid them. And immediately returned. Reason: two strings were relatively bright sounding, similar to the Daddario tapes, but actually better. The other two were completely different beasts - fat, dark, few overtones. Again good for themselves, but the mixture was a nuisance.

Oh god, beate r just reminded me of 40% of bass strings I've used (lol)

It's a drag that this happens (and it's often with all strings) and it irritates me. They ain't cheap to begin with (grrrrrr)

La bella's on my KRAPPY (it's really anything but krappy)short scale thumper.Neck thru w/a fat stiff thick neck and thin body View attachment 1191217 View attachment 1191217 View attachment 1191218 makes a perfect combination to rattle some windows.

Good choice..I have 9 basses...5 of which currently have the D'Addario tapewound strings on them....2 more getting them shortly.
