Have at the weekend put a set of Daddario Tapewounds on my Hofner , these look great on the Hofner, will be interesting to see how they sound once they have a few more hours play on them, they already sound a little different to how they did a couple days ago

TapeWound Club~Anyone?

Out of the 2 sets I've tried, La Bella white nylons are the most boiled noodle feeling strings I've ever tried. Really liked the sound and the texture was heavenly. But I absolutely could not play them. I just don't have the touch.
I purchased the Light set. The B strings are the same, but at .135, al dente spaghetti. The .130 D'addario XLs have MUCH more tension. Much more my style.
Tapewound players. In your experience, are Tapewould strings better for preventing finger blisters than metal strings (Nickel)?
I have Labella White Nylons on a fretless that I don't play frequently. Like the sound. Considering transitioning my gigging bass to Nylons, cause I got really bad blisters last gig, and a double in a week.

I think blisters are largely due to pressure not necessarily friction...
If you are running heavier strings - just as likely. Also some nylons actually stick more than many metal strings. I actually almost got a burn the first time I used nylons doing a slide. Once you get used to any string these things become a thing of the past.
Your playing style will adapt but - i've only actually only ever got blisters on my right hand from digging in too much at a gig - 'cause I couldn't hear myself - lesson learned turn volume up if you can't hear or get foh to give you more monitor...

I think you're right. I want to play dynamically. But I guess there's a fine line between musicality and overplaying.
I just put D'addario tapewounds on my bass with barts and bart preamp. I love the feel, tension and action but the sound isn't the right pairing with these pickups. It's like it's completely scooped and a bit dead. Has anyone else tried this combo? Should I try some others?
I tried them on my stock Pedulla. Quite liked them. Dead isn't the word of use but your results may vary. You might like the La Bella White Nylons. Much more bright sounding like round wounds.
I'll give the La Bella a go. I think the D'addarios feel great I just think with darkness and lower output of the bartolini it's not a good fit. To me it sounds like major tone has been sucked out of the sound.
Try labella the brighter sound pairs nicely with the darker barts.
I ordered the La Bella Copper white tape wounds. Hopefully they are what I'm looking for!
So today is my 6th day with the D'Addario Medium gage nylons and I can't tell if it's my imagination but they are sounding a tad better, either I'm getting used to them or they are opening up a bit more across the range. I'm still not 100% sold on them but I realize I may need to leave them on a few more weeks before swapping them out for the La Bella Copper whites.
Well it's good to know I'm not imagining what I'm hearing, I tend to trust my ears anyway even if I'm really new at something. Typically they don't fail me and I know when something sounds good or just isn't working. I'm still waiting on the others to arrive and there is no harm in keeping these on longer and seeing if they open up a bit. If the La Bella's aren't the ticket I'm thinking of going another direction with Ken Smith Compression wound.
The tapes are off for now and the flatwounds are back on after an experience using the tapes live and being completely buried in the mix, the tapes just sounded really boomy live with no articulation, i will give them another chance but not yet
My thoughts as well. Love them for playing at home or recording. Live is a totally different experience.
I'm going to pull my D'addarios off this weekend and try the La Bella white nylons. I have some Ken Smith Compressors and GHS Boomers coming too.
The Cleartones that the bass came with weren't bad sounding at all the tension was just way too high and left my hand sore after short sessions.
