toneprint worked straight outta the box with my ipod touch 4g and I swapped the chorus for spectracomp. played round and round by ratt through it and also secrets by van halen and bits of other stuff like is this love, november rain, jump etc

TC Electronic BG250 Club (Part 2)

Busy day at work, so it'll have to wait for now, and unfortunately I'm not playing with anyone this weekend. I'll definitely post some impressions once I get it home.
Unboxing and handling it, it is more diminutive than I expected, and 25 lbs feels a lot lighter 35 (or 38). It also really seems like the head should detach. Have I missed something in the reading?

Yes. That's the BG250-208.
I had a few minutes to A-B some between the 115 and 208.
First thoughts are that it didn't grab me with EQ all at noon. It seemed to sound...er...small...not wide or open. A little EQing quickly fixes that though. The mid EQ seems to affect the tone in a bit of a different way than I'm used to. I've always found really boosting the 115 mids gets honky. Not so much with the 8's. Mid boost is more pleasant to me.
Treble has more impact. I guess because it's all coming from the 8's instead of hf from a tweeter?
It handles bass boost pretty nicely. I had the bass at about 3:00 and the master between 2:00 and 3:00. Not super thick or anything, but it handles some B string action with no complaints.
Louder stuff (depending on your idea of "louder") will definitely call for an extension cabinet. Hopefully, I'll get to play with a drummer early next week.
The tolex is apparently unchanged
Since it is so obviously just a BH250 mounted on a cabinet, it really seems like it should be detachable...to the point it's kind of hard to believe it's not.
Yeah. I can see that being the case. I hope to get a chance to use it in the place of the 115 for a couple of things this week. It's kind of hard to tell what'll get the job done without giving it a shot.
My other option is a 410, so if the 208 can handle everything I'm using the 115 for, the size and weight is better. What would have been great is a BC208.

Ya know...with an A/B/Y switch, you could have a pretty killer dual cab rig with those 2. Not to mention you'll set off yet another 4 Grillion page thread about the joys/horrors of mixing speaker sizes, while adding more fuel by mixing 2 amps.
FWIW, if I end up with the BG250-210, I plan on doing exactly that: A BG250-115/BG250-210 rig with the A/B/Y. So it'd be a BG250x2-115/210.ABY, Fun!
Not across the board; the 208 does because it's a BH250 mounted on a cabinet. It uses a speakon to connect. They made the cab 8 ohms. Strictly speaking, you could use the 208 as a head with a 4 ohm cab or two other 8 ohm cabs.
I got a BG250-210 to play with today. On a few minutes of A/B, I'm hearing a difference in mids again. The only real negative on the 115 (and nothing that can't be dialed out is a slight "honkiness" in the mids. Like the 208, the 210 doesn't seem to have this quality, and I find boosting the mids a little more pleasant (cutting also sounds a little nicer in that one quality). Other than that, the 115 and 210 sound rather similar to me.
I'll have to see what 2 TonePrint slots might do for me.

I obviously make no claim at virtuosity, and apparently, once the recording starts, I can't even think of what to play, but this might be of some interest.

No Tubedrive/Toneprints on either. EQ'd the same; bass boosted a little (+2), mid cut a smidge (-1) and probably a little bit too loud for the room. The noise that sounds like distortion is various items around the room and house vibrating, but both are suffering the same effects, so the underlying difference between the amps should be able to be pulled from the rubble.

Ha, just a fortunate (GAS inducing) circumstance.
I'm digging the slight difference on the 210. I might switch up.
I'll be interested to see what the 208 does with a drummer. It might be the keeper.
Yeah from your recording I do like the sound of the 210 slightly better than the 115. Not enough to swap though.

The 115 sounds a bit more open to me, the 210 little more tight but the difference seems very slight in a band setting no one could tell at all.
With that said I prefer the 115, a nice sounding 115 always sounds great to me. I would bet JPJ himself used a miked 115 to record Ramble On.

Looks like you'd need some short 2x4's, to put the 208 atop the 115, and have it look nice. The 210 atop a 115 would not look bad, at all, but you'll have some interesting cabling issues.
Sorry if this has been asked before in this thread, but I have my finger on the trigger (OK, my mouse pointer on the "complete" button in my cart) on a TCE BG250.
I'm a bit confused because I see different sites selling these amps. Some are labeled "BG250 MKII" (for roughly $399) and other sites have "BG250 1x15" (for roughly $299), but I can't find a site (not even on TCE's site) that lists the differences between the BG250 and the MKII.
I don't want to spend $299 if there are substantial upgrades in the MKII for another $100.
