TC Electronic RH450, RS210, RS212 Review Thread

I see they've introduced their first Signature head
Staccato '51 voiced by Rocco Prestia
Voiced different - otherwise it's the same head as the RH450

This is exactly what endorsing artist should do. Voice a head to give a "Signature" sound. This way everyone can leave the knobs flat and get a great sound. :)

That's the cool thing about programmable hardware. It rolls off the same assembly line, and with a simple change of the firmware it's a different model.

TC Electronics is keeping this programability all to themselves, but I see why, it's so they can get endorsing artist to voice versions of the heads.

Eventually maybe they'll release a head with better automation, like midi control, USB, etc. but they're probably trying to rope in a few Signature endorsers first.

Seems a bit silly to me. All you would have to do is turn a few knobs to get there on the original model. However, marketing is marketing, and if it sells, good for them!

Here's the Rocco video..

Pretty sad. Rocco seems a bit toasted. He couldn't even describe what the name of his amp was about (I assume in tribute to his staccato style of playing, and I guess is deference to an early P Bass or something that Rocco played back in the day). I dig the red though!

Rocco had a liver transplant, and is on anti-rejection drugs that really put the hurtin' on him.:(

Yeah, I knew that happened a while ago. He does seem a bit dazed. Still plays his **s off though!

That clip by BassIda (or whatever her name is) is cool. Man, beautiful woman, seems like a totally cool person, and a SMOKING player. Interesting that it looks like (from her website) she moved from an SVT to the RH540 also. These things really do have the Ampeg thing down in a small lightweight package. Pretty cool.

I agree - it is marketing.
"Rocco in a Boxo"

It would be better to have a programmable interface. Then you could download "Rocco's" presets. Or any Artist's presets. Or even share them here.

But their marketing chose to create another head and color. I bet they did market research asking their target base and most responded they didn't want interfaces at this level. They just wanted . It also given them an opening in the future for a new "programmable" version of the amp in the future.

I had my Staccato '51 today- very nice head, essentially a RH450 but comes with a different vibe out of the box and sounds very different to the standard RH450 out of the box. The tone is very bass heavy with some low mid boost and high mid cut, some tubetone (about 9 o'clock) and a touch of spectra comp.

It was way to thick for a five string through Bergy 12's but would probably work with a passive P bass very well. If you want this tone yourself I am sure with some tweaking you could get there with the controls, however what TRC have done is very cool and will suit certain players perfectly.

12's coming next week - these should be interesting will work well in conjunction to the 210/212 cabs and make life a bit more portable.

I think it looks great! I've looked at teh specs on the TC website, and they've added a second lot of information about the EQ centres etc at the bottom of the specs page. I'm thinking along the lines of iPods - when they release them in all the different colours!?

As far as I can tell from EQ, its nothing that can't be achieved with a normal RH450, but maybe TC have tweaked the compressor response and the TubeTone??

Any information on Price compared to Standard RH450, anyone?

+1... so, it's just a different color with the 'default' center EQ points modified, and I assume some boost and cut programmed in, and compressor and tubetone settings engaged in default mode:

Bass Center Freq: 125Hz (range: 71-1.12kHz, Gain: +15/-24dB)

Low Mid Center Freq: 224Hz (range: 100-1.6kHz, Gain: +15/-15dB)

High Mid Center Freq: 630Hz (range: 200-3.25kHz, Gain: +15/-15dB)

Treble Center Freq: 6.3kHz (range: 4kHz – 10kHz, Gain: +12/-24dB)

This literally makes no sense to me at all now:D Of course, I guess it makes sense from a marketing perspective, but not sure why anyone would buy this. I guess if they used the exact same bass as Rocco, and wanted that exact same tone, and were clueless about EQ and how to work the RH450, then, I guess, I could see it.

Stranger and stranger! I'll give it to these guys, they are slick. I'm not sure 'slick' is particularly admirable though!

I haven't seen pricing for it anywhere... Is it the same price as the RH450? If so, I don't see it as slick... I mean, if it's the same or similar price, you like Rocco's tone, and you like red... Why not?

Again, slick is not necessarily a bad term.... just, well....'slick':D No big deal one way or the other. I like the red!

Who would buy it?
I havn't bought the RH450 yet (as Mark from Bassdirect.co.uk knows [I hate money...]) and I'm the type of guy who wears bright clothes and Warpaint (ish - lets be honest, 'A couple of stripes of Facepaint') to gigs. Not Flamboyant as such, just like to be bright and have a tiny amount of British Eccentricity...

Therefore, a Red Amp Chassis may just make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Not a Chance if it's a lot more money though!

Sounding like Rocco would not be bad - but Rocco is not 'Scott Barter'. So if it is vastly different, maybe I'll have dip an RH450 inh red paint!?

The Staccato is about 15% more expensive that the RH450, which does seem a lot, but is is very cool and very limited ( I think there are only 8 in Europe at the moment!).

I agree - if you are looking to re-create "this tone" and are a technophobe then "hey presto" it's all ready to go and there has been some "pre-programming" which makes it unique.

However - I think if you spent some time with the RH450 you can get close to this tone.

If it is a very limited run, then this sits a touch better with me. It's more about the buzz. Tweak an amp for Rocco, and then make a few of them available for the Rocco fanatics and get some buzz in the market place for the primary unit.

As a promotional strategy, it's actually not bad. As a new product with wide appeal... not sure. I do like the red:D

I will say one thing .from no amps to a really cool amp in a very short time .These guys are going at it strong. I got the 450 about 2 weeks ago and it is just great- IMO. This will set a new bar for the other mini amps makers for sure ...Right now what is available on the market doesnt compete with this head ...
