TC Electronic RH450, RS210, RS212 Review Thread

Mogami , or any of the higher end well reviewed cables for instrument and speaker will take a blanket off your sound and make it sparkle and punch. Cables really matter and are a relatively inexpensive way to make EVERYTHING that comes out of your bass sound better.

Being inspired by comments like this and by munjibunga, I just order the Pro Co guardian Fat Max cables for my soon to arrive TC Electronics rigs. They are expensive, and I am sure 8 guage cable is overkill, but it then again, a lot of what bass players buy is overkill, so why not have the best cables. ;)

PS, I don't advocate using anything longer than a 15' cable for your bass. +1 to mogami cables.

I just picked up an RH 450 for $779 (floor model) but with warranty. Personally, I have never found an amp that I didn't have to tweak a little out of the box, and certainly to fit a different room. I am a tweaker anyway, so I don't mind a little trial and error to find the best tone. I have never tried the Orange though. Maybe that is the perfect out of the box rig that we have all been missing! (bet it weighs more than 8.8 lb's though. ;)

I agree about the factory default settings on the RH450 being not the ideal tone set up for a lot of players including myself. I totally tweaked mine to get the sound I wanted. The great thing is that you can get it to sound like a lot of other amps or pretty darn close to them. The ability to set a totally different EQ, compressor, tube tone and gain for each preset is so cool. I'm sure TC will come out a higher powered version of the RH450 eventually and maybe add a few more presets. This amp may not be for those who just like to plug in and play without too much fuss, but for the gear heads like me who like to tweak our amps, it can be a lot of fun.

This amp is easy to use with good eq response, which is great.
I'm typically not a 'tweaker' either. :cool:

I'm starting to like the tube setting more too. I've been experimenting almost everyday with different settings and really getting some great tones out of my basses and using more of both J pups individually and for flavor. I'm looking forward to playing with some new setting live.

As some of you Guys know, I have had the RH450, 1 x RS210 and 1 x RS212 for some time now.
Last night (for some unknown reason) I decided to be lazy and take just the 210 to rehearsal.
I had no time to adjust eq settings - just turned the rig up to the usual volume point and away we went.
Man I couldn't believe my ears - brilliant.
This, even though the cab was pointing at the back of my knees.
No probs at all hearing myself amongst 2 x guitars with half stacks and a LOUD drummer.
My back says thankyou TC.

Now, next rehearsal bring only the 212 and let us know the diff...

I got told by my main store that its now on all the new cabs...so if you order you probably need to say you want a brand new boxed cab fresh from TC.

I really dont like the coating...I was having a good look in the store and its potentially a good idea, but I just cannot get on with it.

I have been throwing these RS210 cabs around for more than 50 gigs this year and the finish is as good as any other for protecting the cabs. If you play often and move things around from show to show they get a little ****ed up and hey, thats cool. It means you are playing!

Hey Clarksouter,
After much reflection, I am now leaning towards getting two rs 210s instead of the 212 and 210 combo to go with my soon arriving rh 450. Were you able to a/b these? It seems like you are really happy with your 210's. I love the lighter weight of the 210's and I guess I could enough low end with both cabs. I am primarily a fingerstyle funker, and I desire clarity, punch, thump and a smooth, beautiful, natural sounding high end. I use TI flats on my Sadowsky and like a strong low-mid presence.
Eublett and other's have persuaded me that the 210s will sound most like my Aggie GS 112's that I am used to.
What do you think?
FYI, my RH 450 shows up on Monday, unless I can talk UPS into letting me pick it up tomorrow!

I like the looks of that 2x210 stack with the RH.

BTW, very nice Warrior there CS!

I love that Warrior. My fav bass ever. And yeah, I am in favor of the 210 over my ag112's because the punch is just there in a way that twelves can't have. And with those RS cabs you will get plenty of lows with that Sadowsky and flatwound strings. I predict it will please you tons.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I have been wrestling with getting the 210 or the 212 for some time. I am really all about the punch and the clarity so that sounds perfect!

My plan is to order my cabs next week, or sooner.

About the finish on the TC cabs. It's pretty durable. It marks up easily but some Windex will take most of the scuffs right off. I got Larry at Le Cover to make me a couple of slip on padded Le Covers for my RS 210 and 212 and they work great and really protect the cabs. Thicker padding than the TC covers.

I tried the same; single RS210 at knee level last night. It's really quite an amazing little cabinet!

I don't like the old finish on the cabs. The fact that it shows marks too easily is only mildly annoying. What I dislike about it is that it flakes off and exposes the wood if it takes a good knock. That's unacceptable to me. The Rhino fishes are plenty "sticky" and don't do this, nor do they show markings like this. Hopefully the new finish is more like that. While everything else about these cabs seems great, that old finish is pretty crappy. I believe that the test-pilot group didn't speak out enough on this. Maybe they were just hoping they'd all get to keep their gear for free and didn't want to rock the boat. Who knows, but I honestly can't believe the finish made it out of the pilot and onto production cabs. It's that bad.

I'll be having my cabs refinished at some point by a local Rhino dealer.

I wonder if any of the Pilots suggested anything?
I found it strange that not long after the launch, extra amps (classic and sticato) were introduced along with 410.
I would have thought the Pilots would've suggested things like cab finish, more presets, effects like chorus, dual channels, a higher power version (for those who still think 450 true watts is not enough).
Maybe they were simply blown away with the innovative first attempt?
I'm still happy though.
