TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

OK I bought it, tried it, sound wise mehh. It is a louder RH450 as stated clearly here. What I personally hoped the TTone would do was just a wish. Nothing more nothing less. But the tuner and compressor on the other hand are just the simplest, most convenient and musical I've used. Arguably the king of one trip load ins.

That's sorta how I felt at first with this amp -- particularly through Bergantino AE212's. I've spent a lot of time since, playing with the tone control centers and TweeterTone. I really like what I'm hearing now!

What helped me the most was lowering the input level and slightly thinning out the bass and upper-mids. I also raised the center of the treble control to its highest frequency and reset the upper mid control to my bass's "honk frequency" and turned that down a click. Overall, the amp sounds more articulate and faster now, but it still has the TCE "slam" that I like so much.

The compressor's great, but I'm still trying to find a use for TubeTone. Maybe my coverband will do something with some grunge-bass eventually.

Yeah, the TweeterTone helped me out more than it apparently helped you, especially if I paired opening it up along with bumping some upper mids and highs, but agreed, it's still not like the entire high end profile of the amp changed. It's still generally classically voiced, but I like that, and it's what I got it for, and it's become even more useful now that I have a passive P5 to play with it. Really works great.

Huge +1

I'm really hoping the RH750 can cover the same high end spectrum as the BH500. I really dig that head and based on the way it sounds I jumped into the RH750 hoping the "big" brother would be better. The "high end roll off" comments about the RH450 is what stopped me from ever buying it, thought maybe with TweeterTone in place that would be rectified. If not, I'll happily send it back and get a BH500 to fill its place.

My understanding is their voicings are the same, so the RH750 could be used (or thought of) as a "big brother" to the BH500.

The default RH voicing is not hyped at all. You really have to use the EQ to get it to sound more vintage or modern. I suggest folks spend some time over at MarloweDK's website. He has hundreds if videos up, many with the RH450 in sight and the settings clearly visible. Some folks might consider his EQ to be drastic, but the results are amazing. Many heads and preamps that sound great out of the box have drastic EQ coloration baked in, so twist those RH knobs and get something going that you like.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try those setting tweaks tonight at rehearsal. I have no need for the tube tone either.
;)

Has anyone compared the 750 to say, a Shuttle 9.0 or Markbass LM3?

Not bothered about volume, im just wondering whether the Shuttle 9.0 or Markbass LM3 has a more 'pingy' clear high end or whether the 750 can basically do exactly the same thing?

I love the 750 and TC gear, so its definitely staying put. Just wondering if tweakers have managed to get that fast 'almost' neutral-ish tone from the 750 like you can (ish) with the LM3 flat?

Yeesh, at first pass I like the BH500 tone better than the RH750. I need more tweak time. Also I expected the RH750 to move more air than its doing. Back to tweaking.
Two surprises to me, though my knowledge of the BH500 is purely on paper, so FWIW on that. That said, I would expect the RH750 to be louder, but not like mind-blowingly louder than the BH500. Power to SPLs is nowhere near a linear thing.

The single reason I've been looking at the TC Stuff is because of MarloweDK. :)

Hi guys! I just got my RH750, with the RC4, and the RS212 :D
I have to say it's amazing!!!

The difference of an Staccato'51 with an RS210 that I had earlier is very big. Now I have a lot more volume, more deep lows, and the high's I have managed to get quite good ones, not the same as on the RS210, but pretty near... perhaps I should change my strings for a new ones...

But... there's a little drawback that seems I share with musicman20... I also can hear two clicks at the same time when pressing the mute button. One seems to be a high one from the tweeter, and the other of the other speaker of the cab. If I turn down the tweeter volume I don't get the high one, but the other is still present. I've connected the amp through the jack connecter used for chaining amps (the one near the dlxr out) to an audigy 4 pro with a 5.1 in my computer, and the click's when pressing mute dissapeared...

It seems to be the cab what's not ok. But I should try it on another cab... but I can't think on anyone who can lend me any cab :/
musicman20, did you have the same issue?

BTW, the texture of the cab is mate, not quite shiny, the RS210 I had earlier was shinier... The new models are the shiny ones, isn't it?

Ok, its growing on me :D I still haven't got it sounded better than my TC Electronics BG500 2x10 combo in every way, but I'm getting there. Seems you really have to dig into that that EQ section to sculpt your tone.

Are there some videos out there that talk about doing that?

Hey Jarrett,

I don't know that head's EQ capabilities, but the best suggestion I can give you is experement experiment experiment. Until you know what setting do what. I also don't know what your tonal ideal is, but that's the way to find what the head will do with your basses that will closest meet your goal.

Think of studio engineers. Decent ones learn their mixers and outboard EQs backwards and forwards so they can make things sit in the mix or stand out in many styles of music, and compliment the instruments that are being used.

So far I've played the RH750 though:

TC Electronics BX210 cab
SWR Golight 2x10 cab
SWR Golight Marcus Miller 4x10 cab

I keep switching it up and A/B'ing back and forth and so far I like my TC Electronics BG500 2x10 combo that I picked up for $349 new better. Just has a great sound. Trying to decide what to do from here.
