TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

I've a couple more rehearsals and a gig with it and this thing is growing on me. It's so functional I've decided to make due with it even if its not my favorite tone. <SNIP>

How would you describe your ideal tone versus the tone you've been able to acheive using the RH750? In other words, how would you describe its tonal "deficiencies?"

I like the BG500/BH500 tone a little more. Has a little more ass to it. Not sure how/why but it feels right in the low end/low mids area. Also has a nice sweet pingy top end. Neither of which I can quite massage out of the RH750. Gets really close. Feels like a technology deficiency, something you can't simulate with 5lb amps, but need big iron to really do. Complete speculation on my part and of course, imo.

Nice!

BTW (somewhat OT, but we are talking TCE...), anyone tried running an RS210 on top of an RS112?

Seems like that might be a cool setup.

...or an RS212 with a pair of RS210 on top...???

I used an RS112 below an RS210 for about a year. Recently bought a Thunderchild 112, so I replaced the RS112 with it. The single 112 gives you some low end bloom, while not overwhelming the 210.

Hey Washishimi, where did you get that hanger from?
Did you make it?
Cheers, Pete

I think that was a hangar made by String Swing:

What gig bags are people using with this amp?
I have two...

The original RH messenger style bag, which has space for the RC4 and some cords, and a Mooradian bag I got from Ken which doesn't have space for the RC4.

I like the Mooradian bag better simply because the way the top flap is designed with the zipper, it's constantly trying to slap shut while you're getting the amp out, making it kind of a two hand procedure. Plus I think the TC bag is bulkier than it needs to be, and the area for the RC4 doesn't really fit the RC4 as snugly as I'd like. Maybe that's so it could be more easily used for other things, but the reason I got the TC bag is because I wanted something that was specifically designed for the head and RC4.

Don't get me wrong, the TC bag is nice... I just wish it as made a little different.

Where does one get one?
Mooradians are available from various places... google and choose.

Or, are you just wondering how to get this specific model?

If so, I can find if it has a number on it or something, but I'm pretty sure they have it logged as the device it fits... it was an RH450 at the time it was ordered.

Hey Pete. It's made by String Swing, as shown in the link Link Removed

A version of this originally posted in the TC Electronic RH450, RS210, RS212 Review Thread (Part VI) http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/t...read-part-vi-759129/index38.html#post11318468, but thought would be good to post here as this is the RH750 thread.

Greetings Talkbass-ians,

A few months ago I posted on this thread I bought the TC Electronics RH750 along with a TC RS212 http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/tc-electronic-rh750-753829/index14.html#post11055749. After A/B the RS212 with a fEARful 15/6/1 at Ron Anchak's shop I sent the RS212 back and ordered a 15/6/1 from Ron. Actually ordered two, one for SoCal, one for Vegas, reverse baffled so I could use them together if needed.

Summary on the fEARful, awesome cab. Can read more about it here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/fearful-part-twelve-12-a-790568/index11.html#post11287501

Now back to the RH750...

I had considered many different amps, Genz Benz, Carvin, Crown amp with a Yamaha PB-1 preamp or maybe a Sansamp RPM, TC Electronics, and other usual suspects. The first thing that really got me looking seriously was the preset functionality. The second was TubeTone. I already have a Sansamp for tube emulation that I like, but having Tube emulation built into the amp was of great interest. Then all the rest in no particular order, SpectraComp, TweeterTone, Semi-Parametric EQ, etc. What I saw in this amp was the potential of what I used to have in 8U of rack for 20 years replaced with a 10 pound package.

After ordering the fEARful I was still within the 30 days to return the RH750. I chose not to. I really dig the tones I get from this amp with the fEARful cabinet. Preset 1 is clean, preset 2 a bit of mid boost a bit of treble cut and enough TubeTone to get some grit, preset 3 is 'my bass is very very angry' level of Tubetone and adding a bit more treble. I mostly play on preset 2 with each of my basses.

At Ron Anchak's shop we tested out the RH750 with a db and voltage meter. I didn't drive it too hard as the drivers were new and want to let them settle in before putting volume to '11.' We were getting 120db at 3 feet using about 165 watts at 8 ohms. I don't specifically remember where the master volume was but it was way below 12 o'clock probably somewhere around 9 o'clock. But that can vary depending on the input gain one uses. I don't remember where that was either. Not a scientific test.

What I do remember is thinking, this setup is plenty for what I need. I wasn't taxing the amp and was getting a good amount of SPL out of it. In my other posts I state that this gets as loud as a single cab configuration I would need. And it still has room left over. Reality is I probably could have gotten away with a 12/6/1. But with the 15/6/1 I don't think I will have any cab-GAS for the next 27 years of playing.

When I ordered the fEARful, still within my time to return the RH750 I closely looked at the Carvin BX1500. On paper the specs bridged at 8 and 4 ohms match well with the capabilities of the 15/6/1. I've heard good things about the BX1500. My place in Socal is about 5 miles from the Carvin shop so I went over there and tested their amps. They know me there as I have ordered 2 basses from them in the past and stop by every now and then to see what they have in the showroom. I took the RH750 to the Carvin showroom and A/B the BX1500 and the RH750 against some of their cabs. I waited until there were no other customers in the showroom when I did the A/B. I also took the sansamp in and tried that out with their amps. I have to say the guys at the Carvin showroom are really cool.

I mention this because if I did not have the RH750, I would more than likely have the Carvin BX1500 and use the sansamp for tube emulation. I chose the RH750 over the Carvin, not because the Carvin (it's a great amp), but because I liked the tube emulation of the RH750 over the sansamp (I know, I'm ducking to avoid bricks being thrown at me now :-)

If I was in a watts-game, I would have chosen the Carvin. It's a great amp. More watts for less money than the RH750. Definitely a great deal. For me I was in the sound-game. I preferred the tube-y sound of the RH750 over the tube-y sound of the sansamp. That being said had I never heard the RH750 I would be perfectly happy with the sound of the Sansamp. Actually I still like the sansamp, just like the RH750 better.

Good post! I have a Barefaced Big Twin T on order (1212/6/1). It is meant for my main rig, with my Ashdown MK-500, but I will of course try the RH750 with it, too. Who knows which one I will prefer? ;) Or perhaps neither will work, only time will tell. :)

Micro gig report:

Gigged the RH750 last night and it was more than enough to keep up with a stage mix that was far too loud, including a PA top that was being used as a keyboard monitor, a pair of JBL powered monitors being used as a drum monitor for a drummer that was crushing on stage, and a guitar player with a Marshall half stack that was loud enough to be heard out front along with the mains.

All I was using was a pair of (non-TC) 112 cabs, and the sound guy made it a point to tell me how amazed he was at the rig's tone and output, and while I had it turned up pretty good, I don't feel like I was up against the wall with it, either.

I continue to be impressed with the performance and utility of this head. I love the built-in tuner.

FYI/FWIW

Vic I'm sure there are dozens of threads comparing the RH750 to the GB Streamliner 9.0. I'm just wondering if you ever at the opportunity to do so.

Also if I remember correctly I believe you use a Mesa M9. How does the RH750 compare to that?

Thanks.

I had a long rehearsal last night with a 5 piece similar to what Vic described and was really pleased with the RH750 as well. I had the input pretty low (this is key to good sound for me on this head) and only had to put the master at noon with two SWR Golight 2x10s. The head sounded great and had plenty more in the gas tank.

Tonight is the gig with the same line up, can't wait to see how it performs.

Neil, I'm not Vic and don't have a Streamliner but I did used to have a Shuttle 9.0 and the RH750 eats its lunch in every way, imo.
