TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

FWIW, I had huge reliability problems running my iAmp800 at 2 ohms... honestly, even 4 ohms when kinda' pushing it.

Thanks, Vic. :)

I've run my iAmp800 @ 2.67 Ohms several times pushing an 8-Ohm VL208 and a 4-Ohm Wizzy12M fairly hard at outdoor gigs. Thank goodness I've never had a problem.

I want to buy one of the new, lightweight, rigs coming out these days. But's it's gotta be warm, clean, and capable of delivering at least 500W into two 4-Ohm Thunderchild cabs. Something dual mono, like the Carvin BX1500, might work. Or I could bite the weight bullet and go back to using my pre/power rig or B1500.

I wish that didn't rule-out the RH750, but I reckon it does. :atoz:

Has anyone compared the TC RH750 to a Genz Benz 9.0 in volume and sizzle?

I have them both, but I haven't done a direct comparison. My tentative impression is that the volumes are comparable, but it's easier to get sizzle out of the Shuttle. The RH750 has a bit of an old school vibe to it. For me, the RH750 sounds better through tens and the Shuttle is better with twelves but is fine with tens, too.

Yeah its a single 1x15 Schroeder I have. Its the newer PL line he has. From what I have read about the 15L+ this PL is a different cab entirely with plenty of low end warmth and punch. I know others complained that the 15L+ was missing some low end and was mid heavy - I havent experienced that at all with the PL.

I just tried the RH450 at guitar center through this rig and it sounded great. I had gone there earlier and tried the RH450 through one of their display basses with totally dead strings and an Ampeg 15 and it sounded like a toy with an artificial low end and a thin honky midrange. I was really disappointed, and decided to go back with my own bass and my cab...this time it was like a totally different amp. Amazing how different it sounded. GrowlerBox has noted that it could have been that a previous customer had engaged the "shift" function and had the EQ settings all wacked out on my first try. And in retrospect on my second pass, I did press the shift button, so maybe that disengaged the weirdness. Anyway, this second time it was very warm, punchy, plenty of nice midrange, usable eq. The design is really sharp, simple, professional looking. Im on the verge of ordering a 750.

I'd be pretty wary of using a 2.66 ohm load with the RH unless I had great faith in the impedance curve. I guess TC has gone through great lengths to ensure that the impedance curves for their cabinets never drops too low for the head's liking. I'm no engineer, but I'd consider a non-TC 2.66 ohm load to be a gamble. That said, I'm utterly dying to try these heads out. I'm thoroughly impressed with what I've seen in print with them, now it's time to see how my ears feel about TC :D

TCE has stressed that these amps are recommended with three of their cabs when approaching the 2.66ohm limit for the above reason.
If I were using one with different quality cabs, I'd feel comfortable as long as not pushing the amp hard (via volume &/or EQ or tempature extremes) running any combination of reasonably efficient cabs that nominally would be close to that impedence.

Spec 2.66 ohm min.? Odd? Just sayin' I have not seen that before.

Not really that odd.... three 8ohm cabs or an 8ohm and a 4ohm. Makes sense, and splits the difference in the extra cooling and component 'heftiness' between 4ohm minimum and 8ohm minimum.

Also, remember with these high quality newer designs that are out there today, your head will not blow up if you are below the minimum. It will just go into protection mode pretty quickly when really cranked. As far as I know, no real danger in trying some combination out. It will either work, or get too hot and shut down. If it shuts down on you, don't do it again!
