TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

Someone call the review police and put out a suspicious activity warning on Vic. He has a new head that most folks on TB have never even seen and he's not giving a full report.

Exactly! We're starvin' here man.
LOL!

I told you, I won't get a chance to gig it until Friday. Sheesh, you guys are a tough crowd.

Thing is, it's really what you all expect anyway... an RH450 with all its wonderful tone and punch, but with these changes...

  • Some amount of more power (which I'm not sure I'll really be able to talk much about... I don't think I ever pushed the 450 to the wall, honestly.)
  • A more open high end, that's adjustable (this is really the only reason I upgraded, and honestly in the grand scheme of things, it's not a massive change).
  • More convenient access to the compressor
  • A few different default settings for the EQ
  • Different paint, and an extra knob for some of the above changes
  • 1/8" mini on the back for headphones instead of a 1/4" on the front

Tonally, it's the same amp... that's a good thing. They just beefed it up and added a few options that some *ahem* people requested as the result of a cool test program. :)

I really believe the RH450 will either go away, or become the new less expensive model to replace the Classic, and the Classic will go away, and the RH750 will be their main bread and butter amp just like the RH450 was since it came out.

Wow, I can't believe you get paid for this kind of crap. ;)

Just kidding, again. I really don't expect much of anything different. I am curious about the feel of the new power amp, particularly at 8 ohms.

On a side note, I SOOOOO wish I had flown up to one of those Bass Borgs a few years back to hang out when I had umpteen hundred thousand Skymiles/Marriot/Hertz points. I could have made the trip for free, minus a bottle of scotch. Now my points are all used up, and I don't travel like I used to. :bawl:

Yeah, we were only able to do it a couple times before life stepped in and put a stop to it with all our schedules, but the vids at least give you a small glimpse of all the fun we had. Truly special times. :)

The amp literally feels identical to me into 4 or 8 ohms compared to the RH450, which IMHO is (was) impressive. Punchy. No loss of dynamics compared to a 4 ohm stack, just not as loud of course.

I just love how the amp has that solid feel of quality. It's light and small enough to be trivial to carry around, yet solid/heavy enough you can connect a buncha' cables to it and not worry about "flipping", and also not worry about "walking" on top of a cab. Of course this was all also true of the 450. :)

Thanks, Vic. I agree about the build quality and overall in-the-hand feel of the RH450. It's really quite impressive. It's the only head I've ever owned where hired sound guys have come up to the rig and just oohed and aaahed over it during setup. Most of them have TC gear in their racks or back in the studio, so the quality brand recognition really means something to them.

And while those same folks have given plenty of "sounds great" type comments on various heads/DI's I've used, the RH450 seems to take the cake for getting the most compliments. The DI is uber clean, even in Post mode where I tend to run it on the RH450. The warmth of the head really comes through when run like that, and the professional sound guys really dig that versus a lot of the crap they have to work with.

Yeah, it's really obvious this amp benefits from being designed by a company who has so many products that are regarded as a staple in most recording studios and have been for a long time.

Lookie at what just arrived in my office:

What? How do you expect to maintain a healthy gear habbit if you involve your wife? :eyebrow:

Get this....she let's me buy whatever I want! I most of my bass gear in my house and to use it I have to be in my house. Took me a while to catch on but I'm not complaining.

I have practice on Friday evening so I'm putting this sucker to work right away. I will have my Streamliner with me too though.....just sayin'....

Yeah, I'm with you. I can't understand the guys here who talk about hiding things from their wives like this. Mine is also very accomodating to my habbit, but I don't blow money on things either. I have a bankroll of gear that I've acquired over the years so I just roll things through at a minimum cost out of pocket.

Anyway, let us know on that gig! It would be cool if you could save a Streamliner-like tone in one preset, and then give it a whirl on the gig. Then you could play with getting more or less of different frequencies that you are after. So versatile.

All this TC talk.........dammit....... I just bought an RH450 brand new for a very attractive price, if it weren't for the price on that, I probably would have bought the 750....
Seriously dude, the RH450 is VERY VERY worthy. Unless you have a problem with the high end profile on that amp, I don't think you really have a good reason for GAS here. I know, I'm breaking some kind of TB/Guy rule here, but don't sell the RH450 short. It's bada$$. :)

I'll find out in a few days, vic......

I'll be using it with my gk 212......
