TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

Also, my information, and to the best of my perception, the low end behavior is no different from the RH450. All they've done is make the LPF adjustable and attach it to a knob so we could tweak it as needed. As far as I can tell, every other tonal behavior of the head is the same.

Could you be more specific please. Does this mean it's capable of more girth in the lows say 40-70hz, a wider low end?

He's saying it's the same as the RH450, so no change in the lows from before. The LPF only affects the top end.

Maybe this helps...

LPF stands for Low Pass Filter. It may not be intuitive, but a LPF controls where the "top" is (where frequencies at or above a certain point point are more sharply rolled off), and a HPF (High Pass Filter) adjusts where the "bottom" is (where frequencies at or below a certain point are more sharply rolled off), when you're talking about frequency ranges. Lows are Passed, but highs are attenuated. That's where the term comes from.

The TweeterTone control is what gives us the ability to adjust the LPF in the head... to basically control where the high end starts rolling off more sharply.

But that's different from the inherent voicing of the head, which is the same as it's always been.

Yes thank you for the rudimentary lesson. I was hoping that they tweaked lows and highs as they were both lacking IMHO and I got excited and a bit ahead of myself. So is there any change to the low end?

Per my previous post, the LPF works at the high end, so I was hoping that would complete the answer and remove confusion. Sorry if that went the other direction on you.

In my other post, I also commented they didn't change the voicing of the head... they just gave you a bit more control over the high end of what was there.

Maybe this puts it to bed for ya. :)

IMHO, the lows on this head are about perfect and get pretty big. I can tell there's some kind of HPF there to prevent the rumbly, boomy sub-lows from being a problem. Many heads incorporate this kind of this so nothing unusual from TC on this.

That said, on the RH450 and RH750, if you move the frequency selector to the far left on the bass knob, that drops the low end boost down to 71 hz. This is a shelving control, so that represents the knee of the curve, most likely measured at +3dB when the overall signal boost is measured at 6dB. So what I'm really saying is that the lows beneath 70hz are being boosted more than the knee itself is. This is typical of how most all shelving controls work.

I've personally never understood having a shelving bass control centered below 60 or 70 hz. Some controls, such as on the LMII for example, are set at 40 hz, but that means it's really boosting lows around 30 hz. It just doesn't make any sense, and only adds rumble and boominess in a live mix. With a properly set HPF, a shelving control around 70-80z let's you push the lows around 50-60 hz to a high level, yet still sharply attenuate those sub-lows that sound so bad. It also means speakers aren't overly excursed, causing the dreaded farting sounds, and you save a ton of power in the amp to push more volume.

The better approach to me if you want more lows is to get a cabinet that is voiced to sound deeper than it is to have a head that throws out lots of deep lows.

IMHO/E on two borrowed pennies.

So, not specificly to Eublet, but anyone with experience with the RH heads and the Mesa M6/M9, how does the low end compare between these 2 (3, 4...)?

IMHO/IME, the Mesa goes deeper stronger. That can be good or bad depending on your preference.

FWIW, I have yet to hear one of the ultra-light amps truly compare to the dynamic behavior of the traditional power supply/amp designs, but they're definitely making great strides, and they are great even as they are now (my main gigging stuff).

From a tonal standpoint, the RH stuff is also a lot more "focused" than the Carbine heads... not as big on the lows and not as crisp on the highs. The closest thing I can think of to the Carbines in a ultra-light design is the GK MB stuff and maybe some of the GB ShuttleMax stuff. The RH stuff is a lot more classically voiced.

What I like in a bass amp is a sense of slam in the low end that is still tight & punchy -- not wide in the sense of going really deep, but still very solid-sounding without being boomy as you play down to low 'B'.

I'm thinking a Genz ShuttleMax 9.2 with an Uber 410 or pair of Uber 210 cabs would get me there with the right bass guitar (GASin' for a Big Al 5 SSS or ultimately a Dingwall Z3) and the right EQ settings.

You've described the RH heads for sure. The Genz heads are also voiced more tightly down low. The difference will be the highs. The Max 9.2 simply won't have as much control over the top end as the RH750 will with that Tweetertone knob.

I guess I'll have to compare them for myself.

It is more about the lows and mid-bass for me (as long as the mids & highs are clean & clear).
 
Just a quick one to say my 750 replacement unit is on its way. There was a bit of confusion as to whether it should click when you mute, but to be safe ive requested a new unit.

What I wanted to say was a big thanks to Uffe at TC Electronics, and Darren at the Bass Merchant, (UK). They have been more than helpful.

Uffe actually took the time to call my mobile phone and left me a message about the 750, and then he also sent me an email. This is very very good customer service, and its great to know that TC are there should we need them for anything.

It’s nice to be able to leave positive comments and it’s even better to have great service.

If anyone in the UK needs an RH750, or any TC gear, be sure to give the Bass Merchant an email/call as they have fantastic customer care, and great prices.

PS – Been using one of my RS210s recently, what a punchy, well engineered little cabinet this is! It sounds great with all the heads ive tried with it, obviously the 450 and 750 sound really good with it. Ive been boosting the bass just a little, and it seems to move so much air for a little cabinet!
 
OK..now for the biiiiiig question.......

Got myself a bergantino AE212 cab and found the RH450 just didnt give me the tone I liked out of the Berg.
Bought a Shuttle 9.0 and the amp/cab match sounds great ( the Berg seems to prefer a more hifi amp IMHO )
The Berg AE410 sounds awesome with the RH450 by the way - just the 212 that seems to not be great voicing? match.

My question is if anyone has tried a Berg AE212 with the new RH750 - mainly as I want to know if the Tweetertone makes gives it that hifi push that I think it needs for this cab.

I haven't, but it will depend on whether you felt it was only something from the top end that was missing. Other than the Tweetertone, the two amps are voiced the same, although I understand that the EQ points are set differently at the factory (the centre points are the same, but the 750 is set off-centre for one or more bands, I believe). If you basically didn't like the 450 through that cab, you probably won't like the 750, or at least the odds are high enough that you might think twice about paying for it before trying it.
