Hi,
I'm French and I don't know if it's the good place for my question or if I need to open a new trhead... said me...
So, I'm not arrive to choose between the GB STM-900 and the RH750...
I saw test between the RH450 and the STM and the result of many people are that the STM are more open at the top end, richer, cleaner, punchier, fatter... more defined.
I'm very interest to see a test beetwen the STM900 vs RH750...Were able to you to compare both? and what is the result?
thank's a lot...
Hi K-Fra,
I have both of those amps. Through my cabs (Berg AE 410 and AE 212), they both sound great. For me, the Streamliner sounds very "natural" and very punchy. The native voice of the preamp seems to be a great fit for both cabs. I usually have the bass at 10 - 11 o'clock on the 410, depending on the room we're playing, and maybe 9 - 10 o'clock on the 212. Other than playing a little with the volume and gain, that's the only tweaking I do and the amp ALWAYS sounds wonderful!
I haven't had the RH 750 as long. It also sounds great with these cabs. The amp is very transparent (i.e. "straight-wire-with-gain" transparent) and very immediate. I don't think it's any more "punchy" than the Streamliner, but it's SO fast. In this regard, it reminds me of the Markbass LM II that I owned for a year-or-so (but the LM sounded more colored/less hi fi to me). The RH 750 is also a tweaker delight!! I'm getting more deeply into the tone control center frequencies and TweeterTone. It's fun setting up the amp for different basses (i.e. the polite top of a BN5 vs the incredible highs of a Sadowsky).
If I could only have one ...? I suppose it would have to be the Streamliner. It's one of those rare amps that makes me smile every time I play it! Honestly, though, I could be very happy with the RH 750 as my only amp, too. The Streamliner is like a pocket knife with one or two incredibly sharp and useful blades, while the RH 750 is a massive Swiss-Army knive with gadgets I may never use (or fully understand).
Both are powerful, both are elegant, and both companies have great customer service. I don't think you can go wrong with either!
Greg
PS I just reread your list of adjectives. I would say that the Streamliner has a brighter, more "crystalline" high-end, and is "richer" and "fatter," while the RH 750 is "cleaner" and "more defined." As I mentioned earlier, I think they're equally punchy. I hope this helps ...
