TC Electronics "Epic Fail"

jeff7bass said:
I was chopping up some frozen berries (for a smoothie) in mine when the phone rang. Left the fork in the blender and when I came back I forgot the fork was in there...
Turned on the blender and the fork shot right through the top of the blender and hit the ceiling! After a long cleanup I was so flustered that I went and played my bass (required bass content).

:hiding:

I guess my only real question is did you eat the smoothie? Was it good? Scale 1-10?

Laugh, laugh, all. We'll see what's really going on when in 2042, people are searching out that early smps stuff because it's so reliable and just won't die, much like we speak of 70's and 80's Peavey's and GK's today......if any of you are even alive then. At least one of us has enough skepticism to not immediately jump on the bandwagon, in the interest of carrying an amplifier that weighs less than a bass. Like I say, this stuff hasn't been around long enough to even know if it's as reliable as the old stuff or not......not to mention the garbage heap it's creating. Newer does not equal better. If it did, SVT's, Bassman's, AC30's and Plexi's would've gone by the wayside long ago and the latest, greatest digital crap wouldn't be trying to emulate 50+ year old designs.

If there's a such thing as Talkbass, or even amplifiers, in 2042, ya'll are free to come along and poke fun at me.....if your arthritis doesn't prevent you from typing out your fun-poking.:p

But you have to realize that it's only the sound of the 50+ year old designs that people still want, right? And the point of the newer technology is the light weight, small size, high power for the size, high number/range of capabilities for the size, and cool operation for greater longevity and stability.

That's your opinion I guess. Newer = better to me. Give me graphite necks, darkglass pedals, and little bastard amps all day over the old stuff

ON EDIT: ok, after re-reading your post, I now see you said "big iron solid state amps". Now it makes much more sense.

D'oh!
Ya, really, PF! Get hold of yourself ;) Of course tube amps rule. Everyone knows that. I'm just not a fan of that tightness of normal solid state amps, and I don't get that with most micros so I enjoy using them. I've AB'd that little Micro VR on a gig with my SVT through my 810, and it's quite a tubey sounding amp to my ears and cops the sounds I like from my SVT and has a lot of dynamic range. But let's not get carried away. I've got it all in perspective here still...I haven't taken total leave of my senses yet ;)

Of course, 50 years ago nobody knew about the reliability of that 50 year old technology either... and some of the stuff produced back then was so bad and so unreliable that it makes me cringe to even think about it today. It's so easy to fall back on 20-20 hindsight. ;)

You mean the old days when a 10% failure rate was considered good right? Sometime....maybe not too far in the future I'll forget those days? Naw probably not. :)

I bet you yelled "what, the fork???"!

Good News:
So I was able to get contact info for the Services Manager at TC Electronics and after a 2+ month delay he was able to get my unit repaired back to me within 2 business days :D

Bad News:
The Unit looked like someone took a hammer to the solid steal frame on the front! Absolutely no damage to the box it shipped to them in or the bigger box they returned it in. Someone was not happy with the closing of the service center apparently. Anyways I sent all the photo's and (for ME) a pretty calm email and today, 2 business day's later I received an email that they are working towards a resolution for me. So we'll see. My faith was definitely restored in TC's Support of their products with the fast turnaround I received up the corp ladder and I'm hoping it continues through this NIGHTMARE.

MORE TO COME
