TC Electronics RebelHead 450 - Rebel with a Cause

I do believe this is a trademark issue.

I can understand for a segment of the American population the word "rebel" would conjure the Civil war and the 'racist South' but by no means does that word call up that image anywhere else, not like the swastika which was tied into a global event.

this is simply a trademark issue.

let's not try to read too much into it.

Eh, you're probably right.

"rebels" = US Confederacy in Civil War days. Personally, I think it's a bit of a stretch to call it an offensive word, but just like the swastika wasn't considered offensive to people until Hitler used it, it sort of developed into a word with racist connotations by its Confederate associations.

I don't see how rebel, as in, "member of a rebellion" could be interpreted this way. It's kind of a narrow interpretation, isn't it? Or is this a common term for a confederate?

I could think of many things that would come to mind before something like this if i heard the word rebel.

Anyway, as long as its a trademark issue and not a PC issue...

It is. The US Civil War was often said to be between the "Yankees vs. Rebels." Northerners are still called Yankees by a lot of southerners. I agree that it's narrow, but what can I tell you?

Being from Europe, this is new to me. You learn every day!

On the other hand, I am always surprised by the use of the acronym SS for Solid State. Over here in the old continent verybody associates those two letters with Hitlers elite murder troops........

Back to the RH: I would be V E R Y curious to know how it sounds, compared to for instance the Markbass LMII or F1, or a Genz Benz.

About the tube modelling. They say both the preamp and poweramp section of a fulltube amp is taken into consideration. But is the modelling actually taken care of in the pre-amp section of RH 450? That is if I would connect preamp out into an external Poweramp, would it still deliver the same sound? The reason: if I should need more than 450W, getting a second 1000$ RH for just the poweramp seems stupid.

Just about the time that the first American black president is being sworn in, a new product is introduced called the Rebel, with Rebel ads being splashed everywhere. Ooops!

Symbolism is powerful. Swastikas used to be a benign good luck symbol (http://www.luckymojo.com/swastika.html) and still is in some cultures/religions. Still, some may recall a misunderstanding in 2003 regarding a Coca-Cola toy robot... (Invalid Link Removed)

Anyway, I wonder how many watts the RH delivers with three eight ohm cabs.

I would say all the modeling is done in the pre-amp section. I suppose the power amp is just a clean Class D module.

I think they have studied in what way a tube pre-amp and a tube poweramp influence the sound, and have modelled that behaviour into the RH pre-amp :)

I hope I make myself clear :hmm::)

Just a quick explanation to the question on 4 ohm min. load vs. three 8 ohm TC cabs (=2.6 ohm load).
You are absolutely right - we know the load of our own cabs very well and can therefore guarantee that 3 cabs will not run the amp to hard - unfortunately we cannot vouch for all the other cabs out there so we had to play it on the safe side with a min. 4 ohm load on other cabs.

That said, the amp will not break if you run it lower than 4 ohms, we've taken great care in designing our protection systems so that you will not be able to kill the amp through wrong loading - it still might shorten to total lifetime of the amp though.
Hope this helps

I signed up for the Test Pilot scheme yesterday- just awaiting a reply. If selected, my band have loads of local and national live dates and recording coming up, and, here's the catch: Me and the guitarist/singer don't drive, and our drummer needs his car for, well, his mahussive kit. As such, we're having to travel entirely by public transport- buses, coaches, trains and the tube. I shall REALLY be putting the RH450 stack's portability to the test!

Of course, I'll keep everyone on here, UG (boo!) and my band's online community posted with a video diary. I'll give you more info as I get it!

Thanks for the clarification.

Cheers,

Some of us in other parts of the world couldn't give a monkey's about how the word rebel is associated in different parts of the world. I for one associate it with the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars, they were the good guys :)

As for the american civil war connotations, I personally wouldn't care if the product was called the Cavalier or Roundhead (British history, go forth and research), it's what it sounds like that counts.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that in Europe we have such an extensive bloody history of civil (and uncivil) wars, that things like this cease to bother us. Although saying that, waving a swasticka around is still a no no being in living memory.
