Do I get a number with my stack, too?

I'm also about to buy a Trace Elliot T-bass!

Since the last time I updated my Trace stack, it looks like this:

Question: I have an old GP11/AH250 that
sounds awesome, but I have no idea what to do with the EQ. I've always had Acoustic or Ampeg amps with a few EQ knobs and always managed to get a decent sound, but never had a graphic EQ. What advice would you guys give on how to manipulate this amp for different situations? Every time I fool around with it I only make it sound worse.

A little goes a long way. Use the ears not the eyes. Unless something is drastically wrong with the room you won't move adjacent sliders in opposite directions or move one much further than the other.

The preshape is quite mid scooped. More often than not I have a bit of "reverse smiley" in the mids if I have preshape on. Also lows trimmed in the very low end to save on flapping.

Hey Trace Elliot experts - I have a question re. the old 100W Commando 15 amps (the ones without the number 15 printed on them). I played through one of these a few days ago and loved the tone. I'm trying to figure out if there was something special about these old combos that made them sound different to other Trace stuff, or if a similar tone could be obtained through other (maybe newer) Trace gear. These combos can be picked up fairly cheap these days but they're kind of difficult to find, I'd love to find one, but if I don't, I'd like to see what other options I have if I want an identical tone to one of these amps. Can anyone chime in on this? Thanks..

IMO...if you can get it for $50 or so and can afford the repair bill, I'd say do it. Maybe ask the seller if both of you could take it in for an estimate before buying, if possible.

The guy agreed to $50 so I'm picking it up tomorrow and dropping it straight at my amp repairman's place. I hope the estimate is within my paupers budget!

So now I am the proud owner of the $50 paperweight...assuming my amp guy can fix it for an amount affordable to me, I will have an AH300SM GP7!

I figure if I spend 150 on the repair I've still paid below market value. These heads sell in the 200 to 300 from what I gather.

Now if it comes in at around 100...well that would be the icing on the cake.

They are a great combo, mine has been heavily used for over 15 years. I guess it's the fact they came from the original Trace factory in the UK before they were taken over. They are completely no frills, not even a DI or headphone out but the passive tone stack just works well in most situations. My fretless can lack mids occasionally but I have an outboard eq to sort that. They do come up on eBay occasionally and go for a song so you should be able to pick one up before too long.

Very nice! I just got a BB1200S and I can't believe how good it sounds through the TE.

yessir, The 82 1000 S I played through my Trace through the 80's and early 90's before I defretted it. I played Yamaha and Ricks and still have the Ricks too, but the Trace has been my sound since 86 when I got my first one.

Thanks ! yeah as you probably already know the BLX pumps big time but that "normal" cab really opens up the sound , in a good way .

right on ! Hey fyi I scored this from one of the lads here in the Classifieds . I used one of those little Remington Fabric Shavers and it cleaned it up like new , shave your fur fellas !
