Team Trace Elliott Pt 3

Hello all,

I was hoping that one of you Trace Elliot experts could answer a question for me!

I just recently acquired an AH250SMX. As everyone knows, this head has a 12-band eq and a pre-shape button which scoops the mids. Anyway, it seems that I cannot engage the preshape and eq at the same time on this head. However, my GP12SMX preamp I am able to have both preshape and eq engaged. It seems like there is a problem here......

BUT, I noticed the AH250SMX also has a 1/4" foot switch to remotely operate the preshape and 12-band eq. Does this have anything to do with me not being able to engage both these functions on the head without the foot switch? I do not have the foot switch with this head nor do I know what kind it takes.

Any thoughts?

I think that is the way my AH350SMX is. If the pre-shape is turned on, it bypasses the eq.

I can only speculate that some monkey business has been going on to get it to turn the one off and other on with one push.

My 250SMX has footswitching capability but never came with one. Switches on the front activate EQ and preshapes.

Indeed, it was custom made.
But I bought it like this, the previous owner had it built.

I figure if I spend 150 on the repair I've still paid below market value. These heads sell in the 200 to 300 from what I gather.

Now if it comes in at around 100...well that would be the icing on the cake.

So the repair guy told me it was a blown output and that it had a decent burn on the board...worst case scenario.

He's ordered some parts from England and I guess I'll find out in another couple of weeks how much it will set me back or if it can even be repaired.

If there is no EQ balance control then ya it's either pre shape or graphic EQ but not both.
See the photo below, to the right of the DI output there is a graphic EQ is a balance control so you can mix the preshape and the graphic...
