Had some surprisingly big results from my 2x10 wedge (never knew the model number, the jack plate is worn, but it's from '90 according to the original owner) tonight at my band's new practice space. The new space is actually smaller, but it's a bit wider, and in an "industrial" area so we can crank up, and the shape of the space is more conducive to everyone hearing each other equally. The drummer (who is a contractor by day) built out the space with fully framed walls (with insulation), sheetrock, and then mounted a bunch of big acoustic foam panels around the walls and ceiling, with some rug/carpet on the floor, in a storage unit.
So I had the Trace cab by itself up on a milk crate, powered by my SWR Bass 350, and I was playing an LB70P. Maybe a lot of it was having the wedge shaped cab in the corner (maybe a foot from the 2 walls), but the sound had a surprising amount of bass. At one point we got pretty loud and the sound seemed to change quickly and I thought I might have blown a driver or 2 (20+ year old, 300w small cab getting pushed pretty hard), but after the song, I checked it out and everything was still sounding great. I
m wondering if Trace didn't also underrate their cabinets like they did their amps back in the day (although more than 300w seems unlikely for a 2x10).
At any rate, it sounded awesome and stood up to the punishment I gave it. I need to fix the small tear in the matching Trace 15 and get them both going together again finally. That setup will SLAY.
