Do you know where the connected side of the green wire terminates too? That will help alot in figuring out what it is!

Yeah, it terminates on the metal plate on the other side of the board, you can see part of the plate through the hole on the board, it's definitely a ground, I just don't know where it came from, my guess is it's tied to the EL panel as that's the only thing not functioning on the head

BAS has a Trace branded 15" Celestion replacement speaker:
Anyone here care to weigh in? Would there be a more suitable aftermarket replacement driver? My goal would be be for the cab to be as true to original spec as possible.

I just went through the same situation with a recently acquired Twin valve. It arrived to me with a Link Removed mounted in place of the original

I contacted BAS, compared what specs i could find, read forum posts, talked to knowledgeable folks, and in the end I ended up treating myself to a kappa3015 neo (non-lf).

true to the original spec as possible? dunno, I've never found the original T/S #'s published. But for what it's worth --does it sound just as good, if not better, then my Link Removed with original speakers and save weight ? most definitely.

maybe this helps.

The writing faded off the back panel on my 1518 long ago but iirc it was 300W. The Trace Celestion may be a more modern version with a more modern rating or maybe it's NOS and that's what Celestion rated them at. Does it have Trace Elliot.Trace Elliot. around the dust cap?

The BAS supplied Trace Celestion drivers are almost certainly what's loads in the newer 1518 cabs. I wonder how it would sound in the smaller 1153. I guess u should ask for the T&S parameters and ask for help modeling it here.

I guess it would also help knowing the T&S specs of the original driver if that's even possible. The reason being that I would live another 1153 and I would want them to sound close to each other. Now if the other one I get doesn't have the original driver, then I guess I could replace both with 3015's...

Are the members with SMX GP12 heads able to tell me whether your model is passive or active cooled? And also your year model if you know what that is (I think pre-'96 might be passive).

I am mainly interested in the lower wattage versions, e.g. anything from 250-500W. Rack or non-rack, black lit or non-lit.

I might have found my amp. but I'd prefer a passive one!

Random Google image search gave me this one...I believe it's actually Kelly Lee's.

Also, has anyone seen a gut shot of a AH350SMX? I have been able find shots of the 250 and 600 - but not the 350. Apparently the AH350SMX is fan cooled, but I cannot see any vents or anything that indicates that this is true. The AH600SMX is not fan cooled, interestingly, it has a huge heatsink in the middle of one the circuitboards.

Huge heatsinks on the poweramp circuit board is common to fan equipped amps. Mine's got those and a fan on the case circulates air. There are similar ones with heatsink fins exposed to the back, no fan required. What is your objection to fans?

The fonts and paint say later 90's for that one. It looks just like mine but different.:hmm:

The panel is jet black whereas mine is a sexy black grey metallic. Mine has GP12SMX in big letters next to TRACE ELLIOT and Soundmanagement Series under. The border green line is a single continuous line with fingers separating the sections.

All the knobs are in the same positions, probably sounds identical.

I am going to start using my 4 Trace cabs together...what type of XLR cords do I need to run them together in pairs?

Speaker cords, wired appropriately. DO NOT use mic cords!

Trace used a different wiring convention from other USA made gear that used XLR's briefly. Pin 2 positive, pin 1 negative. You better check nothing has been modified already.

Probably better to convert everything to Speakon and call it a day.
