I need some help, I have a chance to purches a vintage 1518 for a killer price but im tempeted to buy a new one instead. I have recently bought a ah350x with the gp11 mkv preamp and fell like I should stay with the vintage stuff. The problem is i am unable to try any of the new stuff with this head because no where in the state of Colorado is there any new trace stuff. What should i do??

I have one of those, big sound but a big box. If it hasn't been abused it'll go another 15 years, that one looks like it's been cared for, definitely worth checking out.

Keep your shoulder blades together when you pick it up. You could always chuck a 3015 in it.

Here's a question for the TE aficionados that have already recorded with these amps in the past:

My drummer is away for the summer so I got my main amp at home right now and I was thinking on recording a little with my humble studio gear. I can either send the DI output directly to my sound card or mic the cab with a cheap but quite good sounding condenser microphone (CAD GXL2200). What would you suggest? :)

Setup details:
Bass: 1979 Rickenbacker 4001
Amp: Trace Elliot GP7SM250
Cab: Trace Elliot 1524
Soundcard: M-Audio Fast Track Pro

Mic the cab. But I always think that sound moving through air is better than signal hitting a chip. ;) And that's a nice bass that'll sound great through that amp.
