Team Trace Elliott Pt 3

Question for my fellow Tracers. I have the AH350SMX, which I dearly love aside from the weight, and was wondering if I could remove it from the factory cabinet and easily mounted into a rack? The factory cabinet the amp is in is quite heavy on its own. Has anyone done this?

This came up here once before , but I forgot how it went. If no one knows for sure I would just take it out and see , some models have a full steel chasis and will go right into a rack, but others are not fully encased and are meant to stay in the factory sleeve.

Thanks, to be honest I'm not positive but I do believe mine has a full metal chassis which just slides right into the factory cabinet; it's been a few years since I removed it. Unfortunately I don't have a suitable rack handy to see if it will work.

Got a couple of cabs today....REALLY cheap....1048 for 40.00 and a 1528 for 20.00.....the speakers are cooked all the way around so now I have two cabs sans speakers....any suggestions for new speakers so I can get them going again? Post pics in a minute...

The eminence kappalite 3010HO IS an awesome speaker with a high spl and 400 watts per speaker, that 4x10 would kill if u had enough power for it. I always wanted to do that with my carvin b1500 and that cab wired in parallel it would be at 2 ohms and that head would be throwing 1900watts out....quite expensive speakers tho......deltalites would be more feasible and you would still end up with an 800watt cab that sounds great

My smx in sleave is the same as Mudd's. I believe there are rack mounting extras out and about. It wouldn't be hard to fab up some ears with rails to use the existing case screws on the sides.

I had a AH250 smx that i removed from the factory sleeve , instead of trying to find or make rack ears i mounted it on a rack shelf using the screws that held it in the factory sleeve , this just required drilling a few holes on the sides of the rack shelf.

...The problem is i am unable to try any of the new stuff with this head because no where in the state of Colorado is there any new trace stuff...

Tell me about it. I worked for Guitar Center in Los Angeles and couldn't find a new Trace 1210 combo to try out anywhere in the city or the county. Because LA is such a small and insignificant little burgh, I expected that, but still, having to drive all the way down to San Diego (well over 100 miles) to buy a combo I haven't even tried is nuts!

Here's how I did mine up. Got a second one going in the same way as a back up. Used a rack shelf and industrial Quik Lok plastic Velcro. Hasn't moved a bit and it gets slammed around in and out of the truck quite a bit. That's the AH600 head and it is fully enclosed. With a bit of messing I probably could have made rack ears from something else work. If you try it make sure there's adequate space on the sides for the fan to move air. This here is my AH200 GP12, late 80's and a true Brit. Found her hiding under some broken dj equipment at a pawnshop. Love the tone, I use her at home and for smaller gigs.

so after I finally tracked down the little BLX ext cab I got to push it over the weekend and it really took that rig to another level . Loud, full and clear .I just love the TE vibe , aggressive and punchy .

and already have this beauty sitting at home:

When I started playing back in the early nineties I had an AH250 with GP11 pre. After some years of trying other amps I now returned to the mighty punch of Trace Elliot. Feels like coming home. Selling my other amps.

For now I will stick with my SWR cabs as those seem to work rather well with the Trace amps.

Those BLX are really cool little combos fretno! Almost bought one from the local guitarbooth the other day but salesperson decided to try and push me towards something small and yellow from Italy so I walked out empty handed. :D
